Greg Alba & Paige Kimsey watch Fury (2014) for the first time in this full movie reaction and review, revisiting Brad Pitt and David Ayer’s acclaimed collaboration ahead of their reunion on Heart of the Beast. Brad Pitt leads the brutal World War II tank drama as Don “Wardaddy” Collier, commander of a battle-hardened Sherman crew joined by inexperienced soldier Norman Ellison. Greg & Paige react to Wardaddy forcing Norman to confront the realities of war, the tense German dinner scene, the iconic Sherman-versus-Tiger tank battle, Bible’s emotional moments, and Fury’s devastating crossroads last stand.

damn you for cutting out the scene when john Bernthal gets slapped and hit by norman and he says "it's called war, do you feel it?"

@couldbejason 2 weeks ago

I love the parallel at the end with norman being spared by someone like him.

Bernthal for sure looked sincere during the talk with Norman. He just feel like someone who went crazy from the war and now trying to contain everything, during that brief time with Norman he managed to be soft for a moment which i doubt he can be around the others with how gloom the life is. We saw a glimpse of who he used to be before the war during that small interaction.

Shia's character using faith to keep himself sane, but you can tell he's not the same person anymore.

Brad's character is the only one you see actively struggle but the marching sounds he heard in the beginning when trying to hide from his guys indicate PTSD.

“Why don’t they just give up?”
“Would you…?”

30:09 It was a different time where two young people are living in a world ravaged by war and could die at any moment. Finding any connection no matter how trivial, in this case the music and piano, is enough in that moment.

31:08 Yall COMPLETELY misread this situation. She was initially scared, which makes perfect sense, but once Norman showed that he wasnt a monster she started to like him. After the interaction, she was smiling and much more talkative and open to Norman. Y’all projected ur own fears onto the movie and completely missed all the subtle queues that the situation was okay. Of course until the other guys came in that is…

14:50 they literally had just said the tanks names right before you asked that

The tank used in the 4v1 tank scene is dubbed “Tiger 131” and is the only fully operational Tiger 1 tank left in the world. They rented it from a historical tank museum for use in the film which is why it felt so real.

Stellar cast. Probably one of Shia’s best performances.

The amount that these 5 men acted, they all deserve awards for it

What a pleasant surprise this morning! My favorite war film, this is incredible..

@ArbiterComander 2 weeks ago

44:47 they made it look like their tank was destroyed disarming the Germans into thinking its a destroyed tank instead of a operational one

I remember this movie leaking with The hateful eight and I couldn't wait to see it on the big screen. I was absolutely blown away by the performances of everyone involved and It has become one of my favorites. This was a great selection for a reaction.

Can't really imagine having watched this movie and forgetting it.

30:15 Paige doesn't understand in a time like this you just want to feel something good rather than all the bad surrounding you

The best parts about the BTS stuff is that they used real tanks to film this. Both the Tiger (known as Tiger 131 from the number painted on the turret as part of its unit identifier) and Fury (an M4A2E8 Sherman tank) are both living in the Bovington Tank Museum in Bovington, England. Tiger 131 is the only functional Tiger left in the world. It was captured in North Africa in 1942 and shipped back to England and studied, which is why it was preserved.

Also the cast members who crewed Fury had a closed doors meeting with real WW2 tank crew survivors for several hours. Nobody has ever spoken about what they talked about in that meeting.

When filming they tried to use stunt drivers to drive Fury, but the stunt driver kept missing the marks to capture the shots as they were set up. Michael Pena got so good at driving the Sherman that they used him to hit the marks so when he's shown driving the dank it IS him doing the driving, and not some hidden stunt driver.

To film the scenes inside the tank the crew built a tank interior to scale, but 10% bigger so they could fit the cameras to film those scenes.

I believe when Brad Pit was giving march orders and said "Fury, Old Phyllis, Lucy Sue and Murder Inc..." he was addressing the other tank crews by their tank's names.

I think the scene with Emma and the other woman is meant to be uncomfortable, but there’s a lot more going on than it might first appear. These men have been living inside a tank, surrounded by death and brutality, and probably haven’t experienced anything resembling a normal life for a very long time.

For a brief moment in that house, Don is trying to create a little piece of normality. They wash, eat eggs, drink coffee, listen to music and sit around a table like ordinary people. Norman and Emma are allowed to have a moment together that feels almost like two young people meeting under normal circumstances.

Then the rest of the tank crew arrive and bring the war back into the room. They’re crude and uncomfortable because the war has changed them so much that they no longer really fit into this peaceful domestic setting.

That’s also why what happens to Emma shortly afterwards is so important. Norman gets this tiny glimpse of a normal life, and then the war immediately takes it away from him. I don’t think the scene is supposed to feel romantic or comfortable. It’s showing what years of war have done to these men and how far removed they’ve become from ordinary life.
