The album is giving ‘my fans will buy anything I put out’

I think everyone thought that life of a showgirl was going to be like a deep retrospective on the pitfalls trepidations of living life in the showbiz and the problems with the industry. And instead it was “I like having sex with my husband”

Caroline get behind me before the swifties turn up 😂

you know the album's bad when even QT hates it XD

The thing with her trying to emulate Sabrina's vibe is that even Sabrina herself was perceived as definitely pushing it with her latest album at least by some people lol. Taylor gives me the same exact vibe as mainstream media. Always too late to the trends and only there to beat a dead horse.

The photoshoot for the album doesn't go with the album at all. So bizarre she has all this money & couldn't get a better team of writers.

Christina Aguilera did Back to Basics, and the Burleque soundtrack, too. Britney had Circus. It can be done. She didn’t hit the mark

As a Taylor hater this is my Superbowl

8:45 I don't listen to Taylor Swift songs like that but this whole "everybody is my hater" energy reminds me of Drake. It's interesting how vain these celebs are to the point where you're not a real fan until and unless you keep glazing them 24*7* 365 without providing any criticism. Also, yes this is a manufactured way to generate hate in order to validate themselves and the people listening to their music that despite being at the top of the food chain and being adored by billions of fans across the world, they still get no love from the industry and are underdogs.

I feel like the Eras tour would have been a wealth of material; the physical and mental toll, the media, the crazed fans, etc., and that is what she promised us with the title. Instead... she made a shallow Travis album with lyrics dumbed down enough for him to understand it.

Re: “actually romantic” — the concept of a song really getting into the uncomfortable reality that often we are the villain in someone else’s story (just like people who aren’t inherently bad have played the villain in the moment where their lives intersected with ours) is artistically sound. But you have to actually be honest about it. You can’t pretend you are above it… that just strips the relationship of all its human complexity and pain. Either get into it or don’t bother.

When I was listening to Eldest Daughter I literally had this thought:
Taylor Swift at 21:
"You are an expert at sorry and keeping lines blurry
Never impressed by me acing your tests
All the girls that you've run dry have tired lifeless eyes
'Cause you burned them out
But I took your matches before fire could catch me
So don't look now
I'm shining like fireworks over your sad empty town"

Taylor Swift at 35:
"Everybody's so punk on the internet
Everyone's unbothered 'til they're not
Every joke's just trolling and memes
Sad as it seems, apathy is hot
Everybody's cutthroat in the comments
Every single hot take is cold as ice
When you found me, I said I was busy
That was a lie"

I truly was like "wtf am I listening to"

"Caroline why are we even talking about this"
Man weirdos in the chat like this drive me mental.. WE arent talking about anything, Caroline is talking about something she wants to talk about.
Acting like she personally sat you down for a 1 to 1 and is holding you hostage while she rants about Taylor Swift... Change the channel then?🥴

idk how to explain it but whenever I hear taylor swift swearing i remember that one miranda cosgrove interview where the interviewer asks her what’s her favorite curse word and she says “probably fuck” and everyone giggles

Another example of this concept having been done many times: Madonna's 1993 tour was called The Girlie Show. This tour was in support for her 1992 semi-concept album Erotica, which also coincided with publishing a book called Sex. One song in particular on this album was about having lost people in her life to HIV/AIDS, and the stigma they faced as gay men.

Her tour The Girlie Show was an ode to queer representation that told a story through these new songs from Erotica, as well as reworking arrangements of her older material to fit the aesthetic themes. Her strong background in dance is one of the major foundations to make these concepts work as well as they do. (Vogue is one of my favorite reworkings from the show).

Why I mention all of this: Madonna did actually face public scrutiny by this point. A lot of it. She lost a million dollar brand deal in the late 80s after releasing a ballsy as fuck music video about race + police brutality. Her tour in 1990 attracted attention from various authorities threatening to arrest her for indecency if she performed a specific segment in her show- and she didn't budge. The show went on as normal. (Also, never got arrested).

1992's Erotica was AFTER all of this, and her decision to lean in even harder is what made The Girlie Show as spectacular as it still is to this day. To put this in perspective: 1993 was exactly a decade after her first album. Madonna was 35 in 1993.

I agree with everything stated here, and I love your points. When you're on top of the world, you can't be afraid to take risks. For someone with much longer than a decade in her career, there doesn't seem to be a lot of growth, or at least the introspection of self-awareness. T's own fans should also acknowledge this- you can still love something and be able to critique it.

as someone who does not listen to her or have any opinion on here, from the outside watching how people react to her is very entertaining to me lol.

Taylor Swift needs to live a little and grow as person, her music barely resonates considering the times ..... It feels like she's trying to be edgy but she doesn't have any edge

It feels crazy to say but The Lumineers did an album years ago called Cleopatra that I'm revisiting because they did the whole Showgirl Aging Out theme SO much better and somehow much more authentically, with actual beautiful lyrics and storytelling. Ophelia is also a song on that album

A lot of these songs don’t fit with the aesthetic she tried to portray, which is weird because Taylor is obsessed with creating an aesthetic and sticking to it. I genuinely feel like most of these songs are songs that didn’t make the cut to different albums

The album is giving

“Hey AI, what would a potential Taylor swift album sound like if the themes were…”

And this is what we get lol
