James Wan is one of the most influential horror directors of all time, and one film of his completely changed the landscape of supernatural flicks for the next 10 years: Insidious. The film was a giant box office and commercial success, spawning a 6 movie long franchise. Despite the love it may seem to get, the franchise is actually pretty bad. Whether its convoluted, poorly written, or just too jumpscare heavy; a franchise that was once so beloved gets mocked a lot nowadays. How did this happen? What changed to make Insidious go from a flag ship horror series to a mockery of the very genre it promoted? Today, we're going to go through every Insidious movie, forming a timeline, explaining the ghosts and the Further all in an attempt to answer: what went wrong?

Edit: I guess I need to clarify or address the jokes about the ghosts just being white people. I thought it was really funny while watching the movies that the franchise really pushes what is pretty normal looking white people as something that's terrifying, especially so in the second film. Like what's so scary about them over the actual demons? I made a joke about it to some of my friends and they all thought it was banger and I figured it would be funny to include in here, but there has been a lot of people who seem to be offended about it - which is surprising to me? I mean, I am a white guy poking fun at "scary" white people. Regardless, I wanted to set the record straight that it's intended to be a joke in case it isn't coming off as one. My delivery is for sure a little flat lol
I'm sorry to anyone that's gotten upset about it!
Edit edit: for some reason my insane ass said It Follows during Insidious 3 as a comparison, when that could not be more wrong. I was thinking of the Invisible Man and just for some reason never realized, so I never corrected myself
