Fun fact: Red Baron was the first guy ever to pop his collar and everyone's been trying to look cool like him since.

The Red Baron may have killed a lot of Americans, but he makes a damn good frozen pizza.

Things have really fallen into place for Dank. From unemployable "nazi" to basically a history teacher nearing a million subs on YouTube. Love from Glenmavis

Dude was a full-on Mad-Lad regardless of who shot him down. He even managed to land safely while mortally wounded. What a legend.

One of my relatives was a World War I fighter pilot and got into a dogfight with the Red Barron, they both eventually ran out of ammunition so they had no other option but to turn around and go back to their bases. Some time had passed and my relative recieved a letter from the Barron himself, we still have this letter in our family today. In summary it's an old timey gentlemans congratulation for a good fight and not dying essentially, it's very respectful in a strange way considering they're enemies who tried to kill each other.

"He was born a soldier from the horse back to the skies and that is where the legend will arise"
Smoothest sabaton quote ever!

Yes, Richthofen was not the best pilot, but he was smart, aggressive, and an absolutely deadly shot.
He approached air combat the way a hunter approaches his prey. He was totally ruthless.
This was an excellent choice for the Mad Lads, and you did a great job.

Speaking of German Madlads of WW1, take a look at Ernst Jünger.

Ran away from home and joined the French Foreign legion in 1913. Came back to Germany and enlisted in 1915, fought in Champagne, the Somme, Cambrai, the Kaiserschlacht and the Hundred Days offensive. Rose through the ranks to become an officer, and joined the Sturmtruppen elite infantry. Earned two Iron Crosses, and a Pour Le Merit. Was wounded seven times throughout the war but fought all the way to the end. Wrote Storm of Steel, which became very popular with German Nationalists, but refused to join the Nazi Party, despite a personal invitation from Hitler. After WW2 continued being a writer, and lived to the age of 102, being the last surviving holder of a Pour Le Merit.

Storm of Steel covers his time in WW1, and it’s great read.

"Japanese tactics didn't impress the Germans much." Absolutely killed me 🤣

"The Red Baron was different after getting shot in the head."

Yeah most people are I think.

Fun fact : Hermann Goering was once part of The Flying Circus and he scored about 22 victories.

Mark referencing Sabaton’s song about the Baron shows that he is, indeed, a man of culture.

You know, it would be great if you wrote an "Absolute Mad Lads" book.  I'd love to have it on my bookshelf!  ❤️

"Despite the fact most of the Aces of the War didn't go out in a blase of glory. Some did go out in a blaze of glory, usually in a pile of burning wreckage, because they tried to take on The Red Baron"

That might be the greatest compliment you could give his prowess as a fighter pilot. WW1 aces who got a proper Viking Funeral in the sky, had their longship set ablaze by the Baron himself.

“These f**kers were in Messerschmitts”
- The speech of the legendary pilot Sir Douglas Bader to his students...

The story of Richthofen getting blasted in the head sounds eerily similar to that of Saburo Sakai, who took a .30 caliber round to the head and flew back to his base over 600 miles away, and upside down for half of it. Even made a successful landing and went back to Japan for emergency surgery without anesthetics.

“ What’s wrong… are you afraid I won’t come back? “ - His last words

"He shot at his cousin"
This angered Richtofen, who flew into a rage

Holy shit.  We had a German Shepard growing up named Manfred ( we called him manny) and even at a young age my dad made sure we knew his full name was Manfred van richthoven, the red barron.  Since then I've heard heard him talked about in history,  but never looked in to his full story.  I'm about to dive into this damn near blind and can't wait.
