This video's topic (and length HUFF) was voted and chosen by the community! I had a community-post vote going and this is what got picked! We'll do this again soon, but then the members get to pick (so become a member huehuehue)!

Fun fact, (and we're proud of this one): This video took 45 days to make, which means each day we pumped out 51.2 seconds of Historically juice... CRAZY!! :D See you soon for a WW1 topic!

This is an Oversimplified level of a good historical channel. But unlike the man himself, this one uploads frequently.

Fun fact, Because Rome burnt down the city of Carthage. There wasn't a treaty sign that ended the Third Punic War. It took all the way until 1985 when friendship treaty was signed between the mayors of Rome and Carthage (Aka Gulf of Tunis). So the war technically lasted for over 2185 years.

If you can be a dictator for a long time, there are only two possibilities: you're good and loved by the people, or you're evil but too powerful to be killed.

Ah , yes
Every great history YouTube channel eventually does a "entire history of Rome " video
First OSP , and now you

Gotta say , I don't mind

Fun Fact: did you know more Roman Emperors were killed by their own rather than their enemies

@potatoexplains-us 4 months ago

It’s wild how Rome basically spent 500 years terrified of kings just to end up being owned by their own security guards.

Constantine did not build Constantinople from scratch - instead, he transformed the ancient city of Byzantium, which had existed since at least 500 BC. Although he renamed the city, its original name is what inspired modern historians to coin the term "Byzantine Empire."

There's a big mistake on the Julius Caesar's part. He didn't conquer ALL Gaul. In the North, there was still a small village that resisted against the romans.

29:48 Nero didn't take his own life. He forced one of his slaves to take his life because he was to much of a coward to do it himself.

The elephants Hannibal used were miniature* North African elephants, a breed which is now extinct following the destruction of Carthage.
*a bit bigger than a shire horse.

For those saying Oversimplified hardly uploads, the man has a full time job and still focusses on that primarily.

Constantinople was also called "Nova Roma", which means new rome. which is why byzantium is absolutely the eastern roman empire

@ChrisNairooz-n3y 4 months ago

this is such great simplifcation of rome history.

Describing Julius Caesar as the first Roman dictator in 500 years without mentioning Sulla, the original march-on-Rome dictator who thought about killing him precisely because he (Sulla) predicted what Caesar would become, is a curious choice. I know the video is intentionally oversimplifying, but that framing seems too misleading.

Fun fact at 0:14: 771 was roughly the same time that Jonah got swallowed by a whale for refusing to go to Ninevah (which was comically violent even by ancient Mesopotamian standards)
