This enraged his father who punished him severly

"SIR! We outnumber the enemy 3 to 1!!"

General Mclellan: "Then we are outmatched. Better hold here and retreat in a few days..."

I had a history teacher who told us the reason Lincoln was able to deal with the tragedy of the Civil War and the death of his son, and was able to keep working was because he’d dealt with depression his whole life and had figured out how to function while being totally miserable.

I’m just glad Lincolns father didn’t punish him severely

Fun fact:
In 1856, abarham lincon gave a speech. The speech was so well thought out and amazing, the reporters forgot to write down what he said. So this great speech is now lost to time.

The fact that some states were made for the purpose of out-balancing half the nation is wild to think about

22:39 I've rewatched this God knows how many times and I've only come to realize now that "Unconditional Surrender Grant" is a play on his Initials U.S.G, not just a really forced nickname lmao

The slavery loving senator who beat that man with a cain, moved to Florida afterwards, and now there is a town named after him. Brooksville. So this may be one of the first Florida man stories!

I JUST found out that the little girl telling him to grow a beard so that he wouldn’t be so ugly ISN’T an oversimplified bit but what actually happened 😭

Thanks for covering Lincoln's lesser known negative traits. He was quite 'melancholic', a term used back then to describe what we would call depression now.
When Lincoln and Mary Todd's engagement was "apparently" called off, several close associates of Lincoln feared his suicide.
The loss of his children left mental scars along with the huge emotional burden of not only limiting the amount of American deaths but having the fate of every slave in America in his hands. It's remarkable that Lincoln was able to make it through all of that. I remember reading a book where a character gave a fake quote "I do not know if great times make great men but they can most certainly break them."
