I think saying “just relax” to anyone in ANY circumstance is a sure way to get decked in the face.

"Be grateful he even showed up" pisses me off so much

The fact that so many women laugh about this stuff really highlights how we were raised to minimize ourselves for men.

My wife just gave birth a few months ago I really don’t understand how these men are sleeping while your lover or your baby could literally die at any moment. I don’t think sitting next to your partner and making sure they’re ok is really that hard.

i feel like there should be a balance of telling new dads "it's ok that you're tired, it's ok that you're overwhelmed, you just saw your partner go through something horrible, but you CANNOT pretend you had it worse than they did"

I mean the hospital should just straight up not allow the whole video game thing. Absolutely disgusting.

theres a difference between "try to relax" and "jeez relax" some people cant figure it out

I’m so glad younger women (30 and under) are really starting to not accept this behavior, and definitely NOT laugh it off. It’s almost more upsetting that while these men are acting like narcissistic toddlers, their girlfriends/wives are just filming and laughing

my dad showed up with a black eye, busted lip, broken cheek and bruised ribs for my birth after getting bucked from a horse (he was working with a new horse), and he still stood there with my mom through the whole thing before getting himself checked out...

Edit: I forgot yt had comment edits- 2 things, one- I could have used better phrasing, two- my dad should have been checked out but genuinely he always said he'd rather go to the vet then a doctor😅

Whether intended or not, the double meaning of "Why even come if you're not gonna be there for your partner?" is GENIUS.

The fact men can’t just accept “this is not about you” for such a relatively brief, transformative time…infuriating

22:00 ish. A new mom's mother isn't in the labor and delivery room because her grandchild is being born. Shes in the room because her daughter is giving birth. Thats a huge distinction that needs to be addressed more. Father's parents are missing the point. Your son is at no risk from this labor. Their daughter is. Not about you, in laws of women

@sicklesmiles 7 months ago

I have a sneaking suspicion these dudes downplay the pain their partners are going through because to them, childbirth is just what women are "made for," and therefore no big deal. That would also explain why they underestimate the danger.

This even more depressing when you realise - oh, woman can die during childbirth. Your newborn, that you are waiting for, could just an easily become stillborn. Like imagine sleeping through your wifes labour... And she dies. Cause million of things can go wrong - it's childbirth.

These are the same kind of men that leave sick wives, and early on in their sickness, and say it's "not what I signed up for."

When I was born, the doctor unironically pulled my dad aside and asked if he wanted a husband stitch. Dad says he still regrets not sucker punching the doctor on the spot.

I cannot believe how common this ‘gaming system in the delivery room’ thing is.

When my husband and I went on our hospital tour ahead of our daughter’s birth, the guide said “Dads, maybe DON’T bring your Xbox unless you want to be sleeping on the couch for the rest of your child’s life” and my husband and I looked at each other like 🤭 how silly, how ridiculous, who would ever do that….only to look around at the group and see several other dads who suddenly looked super annoyed.

22:18 I DETEST the sentiment of “your mom is here so why can’t mine be? It’s BOTH of their grandchildren” but the woman’s mom is not there for the grandchild!!! The woman’s mom is there because HER BABY is giving birth. It shouldn’t be about the grandchild in that moment. It should be about the person giving birth, so it makes perfect sense that she might want the moral support of her own mother!
