I'm confused..didn't you try to listen to this 2 weeks ago and you didn't get through it?

U2 are one of the greatest bands of the 80’s and 90’s. I will die on that hill

A friend of 34 years recently passed, I’m 48 now and we grew up to U2. We both loved U2 but it defined him, he was synonymous with their music. This was one of the songs we played for him at his funeral.
Somehow a priest contacted Bono and told him of my friend and his love for his music, Bono sent a hand written note, the words were beautiful and heartfelt and a beautiful gift for my friend to take with him in his next journey. Huge respect to U2, I hope my friend finally found what he was looking for. ❤

U2's prime were the five albums they released from 1983 through 1991; War, Unforgetable Fire, Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, and Achtung Baby.  This is the period to start off with, and forget what you think you already know about the band.  They were arguably the best rock band of the 1980s.

Funny thing is they were considered Alternative all through the 80's

With or without you, beautiful day, where are the streets have no name, Sunday bloody Sunday, one, New Year’s Day, pride, desire. Take your pick. They have a ton of great songs.

the U2 superbowl performance occured in 2002 - so just after 9/11. They have said 'in a making of video' that now one else could pull off what U2 did to help recover from the trauma we all experienced. Did you see where they displayed three giant banners behind them displaying the names of all of the 9/11 folks who died?

Best version of this is U2, with the the Harlem Gospel choir.

He wrote this when he and his wife went to Ethiopia during the famine. They went with a humanitarian group and were let down by the politics of the situation... from all sides.

1987. I was OBSESSED with The Joshua Tree album in high school. "Running To Stand Still" is gorgeous.

Bad and Running to stand still. Masterpieces.

I think you have somehow missed entirely what type of band this is or how incredible they are. They are beyond talented and The Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, and Rattle and Hum albums are 🔥  Bono is a legend. This song was late 80's and I remember exactly where I was when I heard it. U2 got me through the depression of high school.

The version of this song on Rattle and Hum sounds like a completely new song: definitely worth a reaction!

It's U2 gospel. "Love rescue me" is also terrific.

Bono's voice was in absolute peak form in the mid to late eighties 🗣🎤🕯

If you are not convinced, listen to U2's War album from 1983.

My personal favorite from this album is "Red Hill Mining Town". One song on this album that has more of a gut-punch feel is "Bullet The Blue Sky".

The Unforgettable Fire is unforgettable and fire . keep em rollin Polo

Well, they play at the Super Bowl in 2002, just a few months after 9/11, and they performed Beautiful Day, MLK (a hymnal song playing while the names of the deceased scrolled behind them) and Where the Streets Have no Name. Their performance was cathartic, to say the least.

Try their song ‘40’. Lyrics inspired by Psalm 40. They used to close their concerts with this song.
