This entire album, “The Joshua Tree” is a classic and worth a listen.

From this same album, check out "With Or Without You"

Because happiness is in the journey, not in the destination! 'One' and 'With Or Without You', the next ones!

The 90s in music created this idea of being guarded, not being “cringe” as you put it. U2 has a lot of Christian themes in their music, most of it actually, but it’s subtle not in your face. I would call it socially conscious music. Their early works like Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s Day, were very political about conflicts that they wanted to shed light on. You would appreciate a live performance from them from the early 80s.

One of only a very small group of bands without a SINGLE line up change in their entire career

I got out of prison at the age of 27 and proposed to the love of my life, a woman who had stood by me for many years. . In my heart she was synonymous with freedom, she was everything. But she had just met another man a month before I got out, and she said no I rented a tiny room downtown, and got a job as a bicycle messenger, and bought a U2 album. I would ride up and down the hills and through the packed streets of downtown, singing this song to soothe my heartbreak. This song is in my bones and blood, it is my life. Many years later that woman came to me and said, "I should have said yes to you back then." But I was married to someone else. In another life, maybe.

From the same album (Joshua Tree), are two great songs that were huge hits: Where the Streets Have No Name, and With or Without You. The whole album is perfect though.

Enjoying your ability to frame a song/clip with historical and sociological context. You pick up the subtleties that even some of us that lived through these times may have not noticed. You are worth listening to.

As an early U2 fan, when this track came out, it was diverging from where our paths crossed. Earlier on as a teen, their passionate, energetic cuts "Like a Song" or "Two Hearts Beat as One" were much more compelling.

You are listening to some real great music at the perfect age to discover it. Us older ones remember these songs and the effects they had in us in our teens. Music will enrich your life like nothing else

They recorded this video in a rush and in secret. They were right on the cusp of super stardom. Their album Joshua Tree had just released and they were going from Arena filling band to a Stadium super star band. They were staying outside of Vegas and went with a small crew in a few vans to film on the strip. Knowing that once the word got out they would be mobbed. They even had the play back audio on a boom box pushed in a shopping cart so the band could lip sync to. In the end they pulled off an iconic video and this song was one of them that helped catapult U2 into Super Stardom. Fun fact, at the end of the video when Adam Clayton (Bass Player with the glasses) walks off into a taxi and leaves, it really happened! He was U2's "Rock Star" and he was done filming decided to head out and party.

U2 is definitely a deep dive band!!! So many songs to choose from. Where the Streets Have No Name would be a good one to try next.

U2 - you'll soon find out that people either hate them or they love them. Personally I love 'em, yet it must be said they were at their absolute best in the 80s and 90s.
And young lady, here is your next U2 reaction in one word (+ five words): Pride (In The Name Of Love).
This was the song that really launched U2's massive 40+ years of global stardom. I'm fairly certain you'll dig the hell out of it.
