I looked up a plant that I knew was poisonous on google. I used the scientific name. I wanted to show my friend the plant in its various stages so she could be aware. She has little kids and a puppy. The AI took the scientific name, identified one of the plants common names, and decided that the plant was edible. It's source was a fantasy book where the wood elves ate a plant by the same common name. It would be laughable if the AI mistakes didn't have deadly consequences. I have stopped using search functions with AI now, especially after it told me that 2 medications that do interact with each other don't. Good thing I checked the sources. The source it was pulling from said the opposite, that the meds did in fact interact badly, but the AI couldn't even pull the info from the page accurately. I remove AI for every thing I can in my life.

I work for a local government. People come in, file their things, then I ask if they need instructions for the next step in the process. “No, that’s okay, I Chat GPT’d it.” They come in a few weeks later, upset that their filing has expired.

The underlying issue is a lack of critical thinking skills. Like why would you trust ChatGPT to know a store's hours but not the store workers themselves? Wouldn't they know first and foremost? Ugh.

The way that I have seen "chatgpt chooses my clothes" , "buying what chatgpt tells me" "building my dream room with chatgpt" how can you not even do as something as easy as choosing what YOU like? Chatgpt is not you 😭

The fact that grown ass adults can't function without AI anymore is genuinely disturbing. In less then 5 years some people forgot how to think independently and actually look up information.

I partially blame the marketing hype coming from the AI labs for overstating the capabilities of these chatbots. I also blame mainstream media for being stenographers for the rich and powerful and not asking tougher questions about what these things can actually do.

The Google AI search results say that the museum I work at has free parking. We're in a city building at a tourist destination, so the city took our parking lot and made it all pay-by-plate parking. We haven't had our own parking lot in over a decade. But now people come in, and yell at me saying that we need to change our website because "it says the parking is free". I call them out every single time and say, "and this is why you don't use AI search results," because it's pulling from a plethora of very old articles and dead webpages from over a decade ago. Our website 100% does not say the parking is free. Still, there's more old content than new out there, making AI believe the outdated information must be correct. Can't get in contact with anyone at the search engines to make it stop. AI is not improving my life, personally :(

I had to deal with bad info working in a call center for a bank. The go-to line was "Third party information hasn't been verified by us as correct. Please refer to our website for up-to-date information on our locations. I'm sorry that you were misinformed by that third party." It's a tiny bit hard to tell someone when they're already angry after making a long trip, but it is what it is.

My husband just quit teaching at an acting school that the owner had been bragging about having ChatGBT plan his entire schedule for the next 10 years. The guy can’t have a regular conversation without pulling up ChatGBT to ask it shit.

It’s scary how many grown adults have become heavily reliant on AI in less than 5 years. It’s not just uneducated folks either! My parents are very well educated yet fell in the same trap. It baffles me how they shove their AI paragraphs on me about the simplest tasks that we’ve done countless times without any AI input.
The same people that used to tell me to use more than one article and not just rely on Wikipedia for answers are now telling me to just ask AI…
Idk how I’m expected to not be repulsed by this new technology when it’s already done so much bad in such a short time.

I grew up in BC surrounded by hikers. Avid hikers love sharing their experience and giving advice. It can be hard to shut them up once they get going. There is no reason to use ai when there are real people who have done it before are available on reddit.

I literally haven't used AI for the majority of my adult like (I'm 38), so it's just like, I keep doing things the way I've always done them? And that's always worked? Idk what possible benefit a 'mostly wrong and sometimes hallucinates' machine would add.

What? Why would anyone use AI to check inventory??? Most stores have an online database that can tell you if something's in stock, it's not perfect, but like, it's definitely better than AI and you don't have to call anyone.
