I hate customer service chatbots and every time one prevents me from solving my problem or from talking to a human I will be ceasing working with that company. Many people don't trust AI chatbots and do not want to give sensitive customer data over to one, yet companies will continue to integrate them because, well, many customers won't drop the company even if they hate it.

A trend Im noticing with ai is that every pro-ai person thinks ai can replace every job except theirs. Its almost like when you understand what each job does you see exactly why that job is done by a human.

Oh my God, this reminded me of that time my wifi stopped working. I reset the router because I'm not, in fact, an idiot, still didn't work. Called the provider, got an AI. Piece of crap could not, for over an hour, comprehend that reseting the router does not help. Gave up after it told me to do that for the 5th or 6th time and chose the option of scheduling a home visit from tech support. Next day wifi magically working again. Got a call from the guy who was supposed to come, that he reviewed the request and fixed it digitally. It took him literally 30 seconds. Glad I didn't have anything important that I needed wifi for that day, but it took over 24 hours to fix something that could've been done in like a minute if I could talk to a human. Slopbot is beautiful. I'm stealing that.

In my experience, at their very best, chatbots are faqs but WORSE.

It reminds me of when I call into a company and they tell me to go to their website for the thing I need. If I (a millennial) made a phone call, it's because I COULDN'T do the thing I needed on your website.

The human customer service rep at my bank has started greeting people with “Salutations fellow human” because too many callers thought they were AI.

My mum bought a new sofa set and realised she was charged 4 times. She was charged over 5 grand. She called the company and had to deal with an AI for 2 hours going in circles to reach a real person. Luckily they refunded her immediately but it was so insanely stressful and high stakes that my mum refuses to recommend or buy from the company again.

I still remember my best customer service experience. My newborn baby was getting a genetic test to figure out if he inherited a bad gene. We got sent like a test tube but I could not figure out how to get newborn baby to fill up the test tube. I called their customer service, gave them the order number, and the lady on the phone instantly looked at the birth date of my newborn baby and the product sent and realized we mistakenly were sent and adult kit and they will send a kit for a baby right away at no cost to me. I didn't even need to say anything. The baby kit came, it has a swab you put in his cheek, much more doable. And we got test results that he does not have the bad gene! Great all around!

As a CSM who had half her team fired for AI that is basically giving illegal advice, I pray for the day my company fires our AI. I loved my job, and now I dread going in every day.

They're trying to weaponize inconvenience to force you into complacency. They want you to feel that trying to hold them accountable is more trouble than it's worth and just be an obedient piggy bank.

I’m in Scotland and currently they are trying to build loads of AI centres because “why build home in this remote location, no one lives here anyway”

people don’t live there because there are NO HOMES

If I am calling a company it's because I tried all the easy fixes and some weird ones. I do not need an AI who only knows the easy solutions, I need a human who knows about the fringe cases.

The fact companies fully believe they could replace customer service agents with LLMs shows CEOs have no idea what the average employee in their company’s job is actually like.

One of the biggest issues with chat bots taking the easy, low-hanging support cases is that the only cases left for real human beings are difficult and escalated cases. From my experience in customer support, the easy cases are needed as a buffer between difficult cases for mental health reasons. It would be terrible to take escalated case after escalated case all day.

Companies introducing something that literally can't comprehend nuanced communication was ALWAYS going to be a dumpster fire. Always. It's such a stupid decision that literally ONLY people who have never had a customer service job once could even pretend it was a good idea.

I have spent my entire professional life (now 20 years) being told that my job is "easy" and "low skill" and now they've replaced that easy low skill job with a slopbot who can't even do it 🤷🏼‍♀️

one of my teachers had a guy come in and talk to us about his business. he created the signage for tons of big businesses (hospitals, stadiums, even beauty companies). one fun part about having a design company is that you have designers (wild i know). he has now fired almost if not ALL of his designers because he can “just use AI” to do it for him for cheaper. he expressed to us that his employees are angry with him about it, but instead of showing or feeling any remorse, he literally shrugged at us and went “what can ya do?” and as an artist myself, i was so pissed i walked out of class that day FUMING. some of these people know what they’re doing is morally wrong but they simply just do not care. that guy had many people at his company that he fired who had been working for him for over a decade. the betrayal at the first sight of something “better” is so messed up.

one of the things i hate about most customer service ai is that they pretend to be human, like even when they're up-front about being an ai will still try to converse like a human.

I ordered some cat food cans. One burst in shipment, made the whole shipment smell RANK. But these things happen. I tried initiating a refund. The bot kept on asking me to mail it back. I kept on telling it that they do NOT want this back. Eventually they just rejected my refund.

Talked to an actual person and it was refunded in under a minute.
