There's so much more to this movie than what these two understood.  It went right over their heads.  At the end, they're laughing at the movie.  But I was laughing at them.

"Verigo" is considered to be one of Hitchcock's best films. It's among my all-time favorites!

The older lady at the desk in the hotel ( or whatever it is) she was also in “It’s A Wonderful Life”
she was the one in the run on the bank scene where she asked George for $17.50!!
She also was in the Tv show “The Waltons”, grandma Walton!

“North by Northwest “ with Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint is Great !! Suspenseful!!
Has a couple very famous scenes in it!!
Cary Grant is SO charming!!!

I don't see her jumping at the end. I see her death as an accident. One may imagine her hearing the nun approach, stepping backwards in fright, thinking of Madeleine, and falling to her death.

At the end of the movie, when the woman was terrified/spooked and fell/jumped. It was from the nun entering the scene. She assumed it was the ghost of the wife that she and the husband deleted.

Midge = Barbra Bell Gedes ( misspelled)
later went on to become a regular on the Tv series:
    “Dallas” !!

Why are reactors so adverse to anything that takes its time building tension and suspense? "I'm afraid it's going to be slow." You want fast, watch Tom Cruise.

I love this movie so much. To me, it is the most realistic depiction of a recurring nightmare ever put on screen. Lots of viewers have trouble with the slow pace but I think it is part and parcel of the story.

People get angry at Scotty when he tries to transform Judy into Madeleine, but I believe he subconsciously knows that he has been scammed by Elster and Judy. I love the eerie green light in Judy’s hotel room.

Judy doesn’t jump; she is startled by the dark figure of the nun and backs away. This is a tragedy about obsession. Scotty’s tragic flaw, IMO, is that he can’t love a normal woman like Midge; he needs complexity and drama, and when Midge tries to bring him back down to Earth with the silly portrait of her as Carlotta, he is too far gone to get the message.

I once heard a critic call this film one of the greatest works of art in the 20th century, if not the greatest work. I’ve watched this film many, many times and its depths always surprise me. On the surface it has a mystery narrative and a love story, but repeated viewings raise questions about what it is to make art, what is it to be addicted, what it means to loose yourself and the boundaries of what is considered identity and self, how difficult fidelity and true love are.

Matin Scorsese said of Hitchcock films that the narrative is merely a clothesline on which he hangs moments of cinematic poetry. That’s really what this type of cinema art is…it’s poetry, not at all literal, objective truth. This is why details and practicalities don’t always gel; it’s a poem, not a non-fiction story. Poetry doesn’t have to make sense, it just needs to provide you with a cathartic experience.

She DID NOT JUMP she was scared by the Nun. The love story was great, he never kissed the other mans wife, he fell in live with Judy. Then she got JUSTICE for her actions of murder, at her own hands she fell off. People forget he was in a psych ward for 6 months, so he was off the dee end, that was done by Hitchcock to make his Obsession seem real but normal to a guy off the deep end via a bad trauma.

she did not jumped at the end , she was scared by the nun in the dark , she was hit by guilt and shame and fell by moving back in fear ,

You two are fun.  I love how you catch details and anticipate possible behaviors, like the sun setting at the Argosy Bookstore and making it dark inside, prompting Pop Leibel to turn on the light, and how Madeleine might drive off when Scottie goes to sit his from door.

Jimmy Stewart was still a young actor when WW2 broke out. He joined the Air Force, became a pilot and ended up flying bombing runs over Nazi Germany. When the war ended, he was decorated for his service,  then joined the Air Force reserve and returned to his acting career. Later, he flew bombing runs over Vietnam as a Reserve pilot. A good guy and great actor. He never disappoints.

Another great Jimmy Stewart Hitchcock movie:
“The Man Who Knew Too Much “
 costarring Doris Day !!

Three extremely enjoyable Hitchcock films are among his very early works: The 39 Steps (1935); The Lady Vanishes (1938); and Foreign Correspondent (1940.) They all have a LOT more humor, witty dialogue, offbeat situations, and characters for comic relief, along with the trademark suspense, mystery, villains and political drama. Also, in those 3 films it is very easy to see how Hitchcock is developing his trademark characters of the suave and clever “wronged man” and the spunky, strong-minded and intelligent female lead, and the use of unusual locations and impressive finales. Because of the time period, and limited budgets, don’t expect a Hollywood blockbuster but fans often cite these older films as among their favorites.

Though the mystery plot is nonsense, (it depends on them knowing exactly how Scotty will behave in every situation), the whole movie is meant to be experienced as a fever dream of obsession, and in that, it succeeds admirably. That first shot of Novak un the green dress against the red wallpaper, sensational. The costuming and music are both superb. The shot beneath the Golden Gate bridge is iconic.

If you want great romance in a Hitchcock film, then North By Northwest or To Catch A Thief would both be good choices.

Rebecca is one of my favorites from Hitchcock.❤

The opening title sequence was the first use of CGI in movies.   Yes, a computer was used way back in 1958 for this movie, a leftover from WW2.
