"Man, Hitchcock likes to kill the girls off halfway through the movie." Ha, ha, ha!

Historical note: Judy Barton was not going to call 911, since 911 was not out until 10 years later.

Jenn has the ability to be very commentative, without distracting from the watching experience. Few reactors have mastered that skill. 😉

There are very very few film composers who I would say are geniuses but Bernard Herrmann is one of them.

Kim Novak had her 93 th birthday this month.

The little old lady at the desk in the hotel was Ellen Corby , she was in “It’s A Wonderful Life “ with Jimmy… she’s the one that asked for $17.50 when there was the run on the banks. She also was in the tv series “The Waltons”along with many other things.

Kim Novak was breath-takingly beautiful in this movie.

You have been consumed by Bernard Herrmann's music again.  It wraps around you and carries you off to another world.  He's my favorite film composer.

Stopping myself from posting an entire essay, this film is a confession of sorts of Hitchcock's most prurient interests. Control, fantasy, turning a woman into an image/object of one's desire. On rewatch, notice the extensive use of red (passion, danger, desire) and green (illusion, ghostliness). Notice how she's framed (literally) as art the first time we see her, and how Stewart's character first sees her in a room of red. In fact, when he sees her, the red gets warmer. As Scorcese notes, the plot isn't the point so much as the film operates as emotional and visual moments strung together, “a clothesline on which Hitchcock hangs pure cinema.”

Fun Fact:  The church tower Madeline falls from isn't there, it's a special effect.

Midge is played by Barbara Bel Geddes who played Miss Ellie in tv show Dallas in the 80s

Upon multiple viewings the film gains depth in its artistry and complexity... ( like a cinematic dream vertigo ) it is less about plot clarity...

"The End? Wow...The end... the end..."   That's right. It's The End. 🤣🤣🤣

Every person who contributed to this project set out to make it stunning. It's clear in the final product.

Bernard Herman's music is incredible

00:53 - Edith Head - a true Hollywood legend. Credited as costume designer on 432 films, nominated 35 times for Best Costume Oscar and winner 8 times. Her resume is list of classic Hollywood films: Holiday Inn, Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Notorious (1946), All About Eve, Sunset Boulevard, A Place in the Sun, Roman Holiday, Sabrina (1954), White Christmas, Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, The Ten Commandments,  Funny Face, Vertigo, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Birds and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, among many others. Also the inspiration for Edna Mode in the Incredibles.

this one and "rear window"  are my fav Hitchcock films.  i love how he weaves daily experiences with strange situations.  and my fav character in this one is midge.  jimmy (johnny) and her have so many great scenes together.  i love the scene where she shows him the "carlotta" painting and then immediately realizes is was a stupid mistake,  i think we can all relate to that.  so well played.  so relatable.  so human.

I had seen several of Hitchcock's biggest films over the years, but for some reason didn't get to this one until a couple of years ago and it just blew me away. It kept me guessing almost the entire way through until the reveal and was out of nowhere...few movies have that kind of impact in plot twist.

I saw this with my nephew in 70mm (it was photographed and originally projected in VistaVision, which is horizontal 35mm film) in 2005, at the American Cinematheque's Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, California, and the one-time special screening was very well attended, I would guess around 200-300 people in the audience. It was riveting, and just glorious to see on the big screen. It literally looked like a brand new film, until you saw the older cars. I encourage everyone — if you ever have a chance to see this or any other Hitchcock film (or, really, any classic movie from the 1930s to the 1970s) in a movie theater, don't hesitate to treat yourself and see it on the big screen! These older movies, as the younger folks say these days, "hit different" when you see them projected larger than life.
