Which urban legends were you raised with?

A bear won’t hide in your septic tank 😭

Honestly, the Japanese septic tank story is rather unsurprising. I lived in Japan for years and between men stealing the underwear off women's clothes lines, teachers setting up hidden cameras to record underage girls, needing mandatory shutter sounds on phones so that men can't take upskirt photos on the trains, Nampa boys, the man who ate a woman and is living free in Tokyo,,,, there is such a dark underworld of perversion in Japan that could be it's own series on this channel. I love that country with all my heart, but it is frightening what goes ignored there.

😂. “One of the greatest perverts of all time “.  What a terrible thing to be remembered for.

Whenever I hear about urban legends that turned out to be true, I always think of the "Green Man".  The urban legend is that there was this man who glowed green, and he walked along rural roads late at night, scaring drivers.  I grew up in southwestern Pennsylvania, and the urban legend was prevalent there.

Well, some years ago, a team of researchers started a project where they tried to track down the origins of some of the most famous urban legends.  When they tried to track down the urban legend about the Green Man, they found out that not only was it absolutely true and real, but that the Green Man was still alive at that time.

The trail that they followed took them into central Pennsylvania, and they just followed the stories that locals told them about the Green Man.  Eventually, they got to a little town and asked about the Green Man, and the locals are like, "Oh, you're talking about Steve".  It turns out that there is/was a guy who was single and lived alone.  He worked as a lineman for the power company.  He lived in that town.

One night, he's working on a power line, and an accident happens.  He gets jolted with an incredible amount of electricity and is thrown a distance.  This much electricity would have killed most people, and should have killed him, but somehow he survived.  He wakes up some time later.  He ends up getting a settlement, and stops working.  But, the accident caused his skin to take on a permanent pale greenish pallor.  It's medically very rare, but does happen.

Anyway.  He continued to live in the town, and everyone knew about him and the accident, but he was still ashamed to go out during daylight hours.  So, he would just walk around at night and do his errands, like grocery shopping and mowing his lawn.

"Honey, can you check if your sister really saw a skeleton?"😮

The one that sticks out is the “murderers can lick hands, too” story about the girl home alone with her dog while a killer is on the loose. There were two different versions, one where the girl was blind and is found by her parents the next morning dead with a note, and one where she isn’t blind and finds her dog dead in the closet with the note written on the wall in blood.

The dude that went into her toilet, I knew it!!!!!!!! Karma

I love your Podcast a lot but please don't use AI images

Omw! Im from south Africa 🇿🇦 and pinkypinky was something I learned as a child, 20 years later my daughter was introduced to him. The stories change depending who you talk to but the end is usually the same. I swear I stopped wearing pink because of this😂😂😂😂 thank you so so much for doing this story. ❤keep it up, love ya

I've heard of the Red Devil before from Mysteries at the Museum, but the theory it gave was a bit more disturbing. The speculation was that it may have been a soldier who was scared of camels, so a commanding officer ordered him to be tied to it as exposure therapy. But the camel got loose and ran off, with the poor soldier unable to get off. The idea of someone trapped there unable to do anything haunted me for a while.

It's pretty grim that we'll never know the true story.

We get new Snook, Mr. Nightmare AND Heart Starts Pounding all on the same day?!?! ❤❤❤❤

The pinky pinky reminds me of the Bloody Mary story I’ve heard about

The dude who made his kids go into the crawlspace is frying me. "Sweetie, can you see if your sister was telling the truth about a skeleton in there?"

Fun fact, Australia has the highest population of feral camels, in the world, over 1 million and like America they are not native and were imported for inland expeditions cira 1840. We actually export thousands of wild camels to Saudi Arabia, go figure, sending them back. 38:33

4:41 Not the double telephone horn bad AI 😂

Why the AI thumbnail if the videos have gorgeous art and previous videos use art and collages for thumbnails

The idea of a house that changes dimensions is creepy. If that's your jam, I recommend the book House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. It's not an easy read, you have to take your time with it, but it is genuinely unsettling. It's presented as found media (which, in itself is really well executed) and the hook is a young family discovers that their new home is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

A less disturbing example I like was a story that surfaced in the 2010's regarding the urban legend about there being a population of Alligators living in the sewers of New York City, it's unknown how it got there but in the 1940's New York sewer workers actually once found a live Alligator.

lol  Parent of the year there.  It's not enough to traumatize one kid, let's shove them ALL in the crawlspace!
