Me over here understanding every single word Nick was telling Cory about the movie being called Little Women 😅

Every time someone interprets Jo as having romantic love for Laurie or wants Jo to marry that academic guy, I breathe out a deep sigh.

laurie and amy >>> jo didn’t love him she loved the idea of being loved while also hating that people think that’s all she’s for

My poor Jo getting completely misinterpreted by men 😭 Especially I don't think it's fair to blame Jo rejecting Laurie as her creating her own problems and being prideful. If she doesn't love him you can't force her to and it's just gonna be a bigger problem if they got together in the future

I think people see Florence Pugh and forget Amy is supposed to be like 12. Obviously watching her burn Jo’s novel is infuriating, but I guess it’s less evil when you remember she’s a little kid who doesn’t measure the consequences of her actions

It’s a meta troll that Greta leaves it unclear if Jo ends the movie married. The editor thinks a good story can’t end with a woman being single and that’s supposedly why the original book ended with Jo married even though she was a transparent self insert for the unmarried author. Those scenes are like Greta’s modern commentary on the publishing of the real OG Little Women book

Jo is not prideful she wants to explore and live life and doesnt want to be constrained by marriage which at the time was obviously a big no no and obviously you dont marry just cause your lonely the only reason she wanted to get with laurie was bcz she was gng nowhere in career and was feeling lonely and depressed i dont think she really loved him like a lover she just wanted the familiarity of a friend

Jo didn’t love Laurie, she was lonely. She literally said she didn’t care to love, only be loved. Which is why she said no in the first place, why Amy also said no to Fred, who she at least liked somewhat. But then Jo lost Beth and Meg was married and Amy would eventually marry too. Laurie, as a husband, would be the only link to her childhood she could have forever.

Laurie also didn’t love Jo romantically, but he idealized her as a future wife. She was his favorite person. Laurie also was never himself, but the person Jo saw him.

With Amy, she was honest with him, without sugarcoating things. She made him grow up, while with Jo they were sort of in a Peter Pan situation, never having to grow up and leave their happy times. Like Jo tried to have Meg do.
Also, with the subtle smiles, Timothee sort of impressed the difference of his love for Amy. Desire. Sexual. They rushed to marry before the trip back lmao
The way he smiled when he said Amy called him “my lord” while Jo calls him Teddy, a childhood nickname.

In the end there. The actual writer, well, she is Jo. She wanted Jo to end up unmarried, but the publisher did as shown in the movie. In real life, Louisa May Alcott never married. She had three sisters: Anna, Elizabeth and Abigail May.
Anna/Meg wanted to be an actress. She met her husband John at a play. Elizabeth died at 22 from scarlet fever.
May was Amy, and she was an artist, you can find some of her stuff. Louisa’s book made it so she could send her to Europe to study art. She married, but not their neighbor. She met a man in London. She was in her late 30s, he was in his early 20s and helped her through the death of her mother. They were married for a year when she died weeks after giving birth to their daughter, Louisa, who was taken cared by her aunt Louisa/Jo until her death 9 years later, when she then moved to Europe with her dad.

Laurie is not a presence in their lives as he is in the book, but Louisa said she based him on a couple friends she had. As for why he marries Amy, I would guess she did it so she would not have to marry him to her heroine. Nevertheless, she had to make up another character for Jo to marry anyway.

just so you know- Amy was 12. it was immature of her to burn the letters but she was an actual child (literally not even a teenager)

It’s so obvious Jo didn’t truly have any romantic feelings for Laurie. She wrote the letter because she was lonely (her sisters had left her & one of them had died ) so she felt she had to settle for the love closest to her. The scene with marmie where she utters ‘ I want to be loved’ in response to the question of whether she loves Laurie is purposeful, she resorts to ‘loving’ him because she wants to be loved at a time she felt depleted from her sisterly love.

if men are watching little women i need at least one woman in the room

This is one of those movies that is just as good every time you watch it. The cast is amazing, the storylines great and the way it portrays women and sisters in general is realistic. This is by far my favourite adaption

Guys. “You’re on fire” is not a new modern expression. And sarcasm did exist back then…people didn’t speak like complete robots. They also had fun sometimes lol

Everytime I watch you guys, I get reminded of how different cis hetero man will look and understand a film that centers women stories 😭 not like in a bad way, but they always somehow kind of miss the caveats and deeper context of what womanhood is. And I think that is why women voices matters to be injected in every single aspect of life.

This is not a judgement of character, I like you guys, keep doing what you’re doing. Keep familiarizing yourself with women stories!

Cory got it right away. Jo is afraid of getting older. She doesn't want to stop living with her sisters in their childhood home. You have to take into account that back then women used to marry young, if you weren't married by 25 you were considered a spinster. It's about the fear of growing up, people leaving and feeling constantly nostalgic for what once was. Jo didn't want to be a wife and a mother because that meant no longer being a daughter. She never considered marriage until all her sisters were gone. Beth had passed away, Meg had moved to the other side of town, and Amy was on another continent. That's when she felt truly lonely and realized she needed the big family dynamic again.

Also, the book mentions that Jo and Laurie are essentially the same person (both stubborn, impulsive, and temperamental). Jo knew their personalities were far too similar in all the wrong ways, which would have led to constant fights

Lol not you being exactly like the editor guy wanting Jo to be married in the end 😅

11:22 is killing me

Fun fact, the novel was originally released haste ray chapter in a magazine which was common back then, many readers loved Jo and Laurie and wrote to Louisa May Alcott begging for them to get together, Alcott was so annoyed by that she had Laurie marry Amy out of spite. The 19th century had a lot of seemingly modern things including annoying fans shipping characters and stuffing the writers inbox with requests.

The simultaneous “damn” when she couldn’t take criticism had me ded 😂😂
