Kate Winslet is absolutely stunning in this film. It still blows my mind how many people were calling her fat and ugly. She’s ethereal.

I first saw Titanic when I was 29yo. I am now 58yo. The difference in the way I see the character of old Rose is a complete 180°. Looking back on almost thirty years of memories, some good some bad, I am so grateful to be growing older. Youthful looks has been replaced by wisdom. I have learned so many lessons that only living three decades of life could provide. Like old Rose, although not as old, people see me now as a grandfather. I still feel the same as my 29yo self but the reflection in my mirror has also "changed a bit." 🙏

Cooper's just like "draw me like one of your French girls" this whole movie. 😂❤

Not gonna lie, I think the saddest part is when the band plays "Nearer my god to thee", because that actually happened, the band actually played that song as they ship went down

"What a life they could've had" That's what hurts the most about that ending. Rose still had a long, fulfilling life but just thinking about how happy she could've been with Jack is heartbreaking.

I love the scene where Jack saves rose from falling off the back of the boat “now pull yourself up!” He’s holding her, he’s saving her, he is the only thing stopping her from falling off the boat, but it’s up to her to make that decision to have the strength to pull herself up. And that is that what happens at the end of the movie. Jack does everything he can to make sure that she survives and lives a long life, but it’s up to her to make that final decision to keep living and not just lie there and die but to swim to the whistle and blow as hard as she can, and keep all of her promises of a well lived life.

Molly Brown (who loaned Jack the tuxedo) was indeed a real passenger who survived the sinking.  She was the best!

A few important/interesting clarifications:

- Mr. Ismay never pushed Captain Smith to make the ship go faster, because there was no record to break. TITANIC was a ship designed for comfort and luxury, and it physically couldn't compete in speed with CUNARD's Lusitania or Mauretania which were designed for speed. At most, it could have broken the record of her older sister OLYMPIC but the simple truth is that no one was too concerned with this. While Smith did ignore some ice warnings throughout the voyage, it wasn't to chase some "glorious" speed record, nor was it a reckless cavalier act. Smith simply put his trust in his vast experience as a liner captain. It's easy to fault him in retrospect, but he truly only ever acted in the best interest of his ship and his passengers.

- Mr. Ismay was a hero, not a coward. He helped as many people as he could, and only boarded a boat once no one else was on that side of the ship. Keep in mind: Mr. Ismay was not a member of the crew, and he was traveling as a passenger. He had no obligation to help anyone, but he helped countless people. An American newspaper owner called William Randolph Hearst absolutely hated Ismay, and he made it his goal to destroy his reputation after the TITANIC incident. He was so successful that most people to this day buy the nonsense that Bruce Ismay was a coward. It's a lie, and Mr. Ismay deserves respect.

- Similarly, William Murdoch never shot anyone, nor himself. He went down to the ship, trying to help people to the very end. Cameron later stated that he regrated portraying Murdoch the way he did in the film, and an official apology was issued to his family, with a charitable donation by 20th Century Fox in his name to the Dalbeattie High School in his hometown.

- The Third Class locked gates we see in the film simply did NOT exist. The only kind of fence/gate that the ship had were waist high. The truth is a bit less dramatic, but probably more depressing. Some people didn't wanna jump over these fences, nor would they use "Crew Only" or "First/Second Class Only" labeled doors because very few people understood how dangerous the situation actually was. Keep in mind that the ship simply didn't have standardized exits as we know them today. Some people simply didn't know where to go, but they were never trapped behind locked gates or held at gun point.

- The situation with the lifeboats is a bit more nuanced than what we're usually told. To begin with: TITANIC was actually carrying more life boats than what law required at the time. The ship was carrying 20 lifeboats, but they didn't have time to launch them all. The last two collapsibles (that we actually see in the movie) floated away after being released with whomever managed to get in them. If the ship had been carrying 40 or even 50 lifeboats, the sad truth is that the ship would have sunk with half of them completely unused, and it wouldn't have made a difference. There just was not enough time.

- TITANIC had two sister (almost identical) ships: BRITANNIC and OLYMPIC. Though BRITANNIC was sunk by a mine during WW I, OLYMPIC went on to have a long and successful career, serving during WW I carrying troops, and carrying hundreds of thousands of happy passengers up until she was scrapped in 1935. It was a well built ship, that even sunk a German U-Boat by ramming it down the middle. She became known as "Old Reliable" after the war. Don't you ever believe the lies about TITANIC being poorly built, or that it was swapped in some stupid nonsensical scheme for some insurance purposes.

What happened to TITANIC was truly a freak accident that hadn't happened before in the way it did, nor has it ever happened since. There's a reason why the story remains as fascinating as is over a century later.

18:40 - "It hits you like a thousand knives stabbing you all over" is a direct quote from Charles Herbert Lightoller, Second officer of the RMS Titanic.

Basically, the modern day cast + Rose, Jack, Ruth and Cal are completelly fictional, as well as Jack friends (Fabrizio and Tommy). Apart from that, all characters and depictions in the movie are real and very much accurate for what they knew about the Titanic in 1997.

A little bit of trivia here..at the 1:15:30 mark with the gentleman that seems to be taking Rose down with him. This is actually very common with people who are in the process of drowning. You’ll try to cling to anything to survive-you’re desperate. So I don’t hate this guy completely. He just did what many of us would’ve done. Also wanted to note the screaming we hear in the water. A survivor has actually said that they couldn’t go near sports stadiums after the wreck simply because the audience cheering reminded him too much of people dying in the water.

I saw the movie when it first came out in theaters almost 30 years ago. I can confirm that during the whole sinking sequence, everybody in the audience was dead silent  in the theater. And after the credits started to roll, there was nothing but sniffling and tears.  That didn’t keep me front going back to see the movie many times over .

1:09:47 ... I remember it well. I saw it in cinema. NO ONE said a THING as soon as they starting playing together. No one could say anything or make a sound, it was just too heart and soul crushing. Then when the movie ended, quite an applause indeed.

One important thing to remember is that, most of the staff were completely untrained in disaster protocol, unless they happened to recieve it while working on a different ship. Because of the "unsinkable" rumors, management  didn't see the point in teaching staff what to do in this situation.
Side Note: Molly Brown was a fucking amazing and inspirational person and is worth learning about

I remember hearing James Cameron in an interview saying in hindsight he should've chosen a smaller door for Rose to climb onto, that would've ended all the debate surrounding it! Also, he said he purposely chose the ending to be open to interruption, those that believe she had died or was just asleep dreaming, there no official right or wrong answer.

It is shocking to realize this happened in 1912, 114 years ago, and the last survivor to die died in our lifetime, in 2009, Miss Elisabeth Gladys Dean. May she rest in peace along with all those who died in or survived the Titanic.

"I don't wanna tear up" - Yeh, wrong fucking movie for that, Brother 🤣. Seen this multiple times over the years, still gets me every damn time.
