13:04 The reason Molly Brown helps Jack is bc Molly was new to the club. New money, newly rich due to American luck, so she wasn't closed minded, and thought anyone who wanted to advance beyond their station, could and should. She had the means and opportunity to help Jack, so she did.

An unwritten rule is that the captain goes down with the ship. The only way he gets off is if everybody gets off safely. He knew that wasn't going to happen so he resigned himself to his death.

I always liked that she got rid of the necklace because fuck Cal. It would almost be like honoring him to have people fawning over what he “gifted” her in some museum. Idk that’s just me. Still a gasp-worthy moment when you first see it though.

Fun Fact! The ship that recused the life boats from the water, the RMS Carpathia, did infact almost collide with several icebergs whilst rushing to Titanic's aid. They were in the middle of a massive ice field meaning danger was quite literally all around them. The Carpathia, her Captain and crew are credited with doing all they could.

26:58 "She's been lying thru her teeth for 84 years. She killed him!"

I'm dead. 💀 🤣

Also, btw, the sunset scene where Jsck and Rose are "flying" at the ship's bow, WAS A REAL SUNSET, NOT CGI. James Cameron said due to bad weather during filming, they had to wakt until the last evening of shooting to get a real sunset, which he really wanted and was important to him due to the beauty of the natural sunsets there. They got the shot and the sun went down.

the love story and jack & rose aren’t real, but there are real elements from other survivors! for example some men were rescued from an upturned lifeboat by one man blowing a whistle

Wait the way Nick was so invested in the movie the entire time was so enjoyable to see. Like yes get absolutely hyped for this.

The scene where the musicians play for the last time is the saddest part of the movie

I need people to get that lifeboats weren’t viewed the same as today.   They literally weren’t meant for carrying people for hours on end, they were ferries.  The idea was that ship travel was so common and ships were basically lifeboats in themselves that if something happened like Titanic, there would be a ship nearby and both ships would use their lifeboats to bring passengers onto the rescue ship.  Titanic actually had more lifeboats than it was legally required to have.

The main reason the lifeboats were so empty was people were hesitant to get on. First, they truly believed the Titanic wouldn't sink, and because it was sinking so evenly, they didn't get the sensation they were in danger. Secondly, they were afraid of getting into the comparatively small lifeboats without another ship in sight, worried that the lifeboats we're more dangerous than being on the ship.

Making that 9/11 joke when I'm watching this on 9/11 is SAVAGE 😅

I think Titanic is not the kind of film that makes you cry the first time you watch it. Titanic is the kind of film that makes you cry from the very beginning, when you decide to watch it again. When the broken sunken doors return to 1912 for a second and become new. When you see at the very beginning how all those people on the ship wave to those left on land - you cry because you have already experienced all those deaths. And of course, because with this "new" viewing you return with Rose to the ship. To Jack.

For some context to the movie, James Cameron actually drew the picture of Rose for the movie, the old couple in the bed as the room floods was an actual couple that passed on the titanic. Molly Brown was a real person and she did sadly unsuccessfully try to convince them to go back for the other people in the water. Jack and Rose were not real people but most of the people around them (mainly the rich) were. James Cameron used real footage he got of the Titanic and spent a very long time 1995-2005  (33 dives) with it for this movie.

The “door” isn’t a door, it’s an upper wall panel from over a window. James Cameron tested whether Jack and Rose could survive, and even if Jack could get on the panel, both of their bodies would’ve been partially in the water and only Rose, who had the life jacket and Cal’s coat on, MIGHT have survived.

The water they filmed that scene in was legit cold, but not freezing. The steam breath is composited, they filmed it against a black backdrop and then comped it in to the water scenes. It looks real because it technically is. Way better than CGI.

The rescue ship, Carpathia, was designed to run at 14 knots. In order to get to the Titanic, she was ran at 17 knots, faster than it had ever gone or was believed possible to go. To achieve this, Captain Rostron had the hot water supply to cabins shut off so that ALL the steam produced by the boilers would be sent to the engines.

Rostron immediately ordered his ship turn around and head for Titanic when the distress call came through. He had his crew cook as much soup and make as much coffee as possible, collected clothing and blankets from passengers, cleared out rooms and made as many other preparations for survivors as they could.

At one point, Carpathia nearly struck an iceberg, but was able to avoid it. They had to slow up to navigate the ice field, but once clear, resumed full steam and charged ahead to Titanic.

They did every possible thing they could do to save Titanic’s passengers.

32:59 IDK if someone mentioned it before, but the guy next to them is based on a real survivor (the head baker), one of the few pulled from the water, and he was in the water for like 2 hours.  Many think his drinking some alcohol that night might be how he survived so long in the water with few ill effects (I think it was even just something like "swollen feet").

He's known as the last survivor to leave the Titanic~~~

He, before the plunge, apparently was helping load the lifeboats, and when women refused to get in he pick them up and throw them in~  He was also threw like 50 chair overboard for people to use for floatation^.^

she helped jack because she's new money, she's not even used to being rich.

MythBusters actually had a segment in which they tested whether or not it was possible for both Jack and Rose to survive. The conclusion is it was. It would have taken some effort but they could have both fit on the door and stay out of the water until the boat comes back to rescue people. But when you're freezing like that it's hard to think logically. All you can think about is how freaking cold you are and how much it hurts. Jack actually said that at the beginning of the movie.
