That poor girl said out loud numerous time "i cant read!" She is telling everyone she wants to learn how to read and it fustrated her that she doesnt know and isnt learning. I hope she learned how to read eventually.

... most kids BEGIN learning how to read at 5 years old. Lauren is literally begging for her family to give her attention in the one realm she literally KNOWS she needs, and that's education. To be honest, I really think Ginger made a good point because neither Sarge nor Joy actually seem to care emotionally about or know their children.

"Your family is fat and lazy!"

"Well your family hates fun!"

6 year old child: "Someone please teach me how to read."

34:05 “after spending a few hours at his grandmas house eating chicken nuggets he’s decided to return home” that’s honestly one of the funniest things I have ever heard in my life.

My 4yr old tells me all the time that “your the nicest daddy, you’re the funniest daddy, you’re the smelliest daddy”. She’s never said “you wear pants”. Those kids know nothing about their parents, and probably don’t feel love.

"There's no denying that my kids are spoiled as rotten as they can be.. But it is a super feeling to hear them laugh, and that's the greatest feeling in the world." My heart, dude.

Sarge is 100% the guy that was given a dishonourable discharge a week before shipping out.

It's just weird and honestly horrifying that two of their kids are the same age but the little girl is being so stunted. Curtis (apart from whatever you might have to say about the South) is articulate, and can express himself pretty well for a six year old. Meanwhile that little girl in the other family literally can't read and is trying so hard to express herself. You can tell her parents probably don't talk to her like at all

“Sarge” 100% got bullied and pushed around in the military; and probably always said it was because no one else was taking things serious enough.
Anytime you have a military guy who acts like a lifer, but isn’t a lifer, be suspicious.

When the little girl said “mmmmbbbooouuugghhmmm cookie” I felt that

“I’m money poor, but I’m family rich”

That’s wholesome

When Curtis wants nothing but chicken nuggets he's "strong willed" but when I do it, I am "autistic" and "need to broaden my horizons" smh

"I don't dream about a big house or a lot of money I dream that when I die my children hold my hand" I felt that

Just based off the intros, the Hollands seem like a family that has genuine love but don’t realize how they’re hurting their kids in the long run. The other family just seems…. Cold. And definitely abusive

I love how the dad flat out said that he wasn't going to destroy a bunch of food they paid for because some random lady didn't like their diet. For someone who puts a lot of emphasis on money she really didn't care when it came to wasting food. If she really didn't like it she could've donated it or something but destroying it is a complete waste of the food, people's time, and money.

There's something to be said about maybe not being rich in health or in monetary value, but rich in family. The Brown family gives the vibe of a couple who saw having kids as something to check off the "successful life lived" list, without actually wanting children.

Wife swap is great at finding families who are dysfunctional in the exact opposite ways

I love that she’s like “y’all are poor” and then “let’s throw out hundreds of dollars of food”

fun fact the family rules were mostly written by production and now that I know this the "if it's not sugary, cooked in oil or bacon grease we won't eat" line really makes sense bc no one would say that about themselves

I think the best part of this is that Curtis actually turned out completely normal and pretty much was not effected by this episode at all. The dude was destined to be a welder and have an instagram filled with all the pictures from his weekend hunting and fishing trips and that's exactly what he's doing. He was offered the role to be the mascot of a local butcher shortly after the episode aired but I'm not sure if he ever took the role or not, but he definitely didn't use it as an opportunity to go off the deep end and try to chase fame. Also for some reason in 2022 every shitty tabloid decided to make an article titled something along the lines of "chicken nugget kid looks unrecognizable in social media posts" and it's literally just him holding up a fish and he has a beard. Like he's just a normal dude and these shitty "news" outlets are giving him the celebrity that went to rehab after being outed for a clip of them yelling at someone while under the influence just for clicks. From the outside he seems like a normal dude, but I can't tell if he's well adjusted without ever meeting him in person. I'd like to imagine he is though.
