Also, on the afterlife thing. In the original GoW it was obvious Kratos, unlike the other gods was able to claw back from hell itself because he was basically pulled out from there by someone else's powere, like in the first game he's brought back by Athena and in the second game Gaia is the one who revives him, but healing his wounds and reviving him is not the same as getting out so he still has to physically get out after being revived by an external force which cannot happen again since they're all dead and gods have no afterlife, Kratos did because he's half human and when he dies he goes there like every other human. If gods had an afterlife there was no reason to kill them in the first place because there's literal gods of death and Hades being the god of the underworld would just bring everyone back inclunding himself if he wanted.

The entire idea of an underworld for the gods is so dumb in the GoW universe, it genuinely pisses me off.

seriously, this is the first time in my life i've ever been genuinely apathetic toward a major release in a series i like. i played andromeda, i played all the 343 halos and i watched someone play tlou 2, but this game is so odd. what was the point of setting up atreus's druidism, runic powers, spartan fury and bowplay? what was the point of focusing on him, that ending and sendoff? screw the "disney-fication", this game means nothing. legit. i have no problem skipping it.

Things are going exactly as I expected since ragnarok. I didn't  enjoy ragnarok precisely because the whole game feels like one long lecture about why you shouldn't like what made god of war god of war. We get to finally fight Heimdal for a good reason after letting him go and for a minute I just yell "finally!"at the screen only for mimir to open his big mouth at the end and tell us not to do it and backslide back into old kratos.

I felt a vicersal disgust with the game in that moment and I've thought about it ever since. Even in context it made perfect sense for Kratos to kill Heimdal and the game still shames you for it.

Then finally ragnarok happens and it's just a bunch of mob fights on the way to Odin's longhouse while the real god of war fight between thor and Jormungandr is happening in the background where we should be.

I felt like the game was a series of extended rage baits against me. We don't even get to kill thor or odin it's stolen in a damn cutscene!

After 2018 I thought I knew where this story was going. Kratos started killing god for personal veangence and his own selfish reasons, so obviously in this new era he'd meet people he cares for and the gods become a problem so he slays gods to protect people or for justice instead of personal vendetta.

Same inherent appeal, still god of war, just one who cares about more than himself.

But by the time of ragnarok they start pushing this god of Hope and peace nonsense and the one time we kill a god the game shames us for it and that's when I saw the writing on the wall that this series is trying to distance itself from being god of war.

The franchise is ashamed of it's past and wants to reinvent itself rather than build on it's legacy and I want nothing to do with this new vision.

That's how you go from dark fantasy kratos fighting his way out of hell and sacrificing random npcs to solve a puzzle to playing Kratos side chick with stupid talking cube with american accents and bisexual lighting.

It reminds of stars wars you got darth bane and the old republic one minute with zombie plagues and dark sith rituals and then disneygets it and we get high republic with a jedi who has the side shaved haircut and a pet talking rock with a cutsie damn color pallette!

The problem with creatives "growing" is they are always talking about them as people and not as creatives. Fans don't really give a shit that you're older, have a family and kids, and have a different perspective on life anymore. Fans want more of the thing they love from the perspective they have, because your perspective sucks now.

The easiest example of this that everyone in the West will understand is Spielberg and Lucas with Indiana Jones. The first three movies were all different in their own ways and widely regarded as amazing fun movies with the series rounding things up and Indie riding off into the sunset with The Last Crusade. Until they didn't because George Lucas couldn't leave things be, so he convinced Steven to make another one and we got The Crystal Skull... a lot of "growth" happened for George and Steven between the two movies with them becoming grandparents, Steven made less movies and was shying away from ANY form of violence in his movies. George Lucas had a midlife crisis or something and just felt determined to nuke every franchisee he helped build for some reason.

Why are 50-year-old wine aunts writing self-insert fanfiction of Critical Role, let alone being given hundreds of millions of dollars by big corporations to make game-movies that inflict them on our eyes and ears?

I’m not even a big God of War fan and I don’t really have much to do with the series. But still, when I hear “God of War,” I don’t picture a woman fighting gods. Simple as that. I picture Kratos tearing the gods with his two blades. Not some random old lady swinging a square jelly cube around.
