A recent message appealing to the "modern audience" to please buy games have made me realize this Industry hasn't figured out yet that the "modern audience" is not actually interested in games to begin with. I also talk a bit about the game Lost Records, as an old-time fan of the studio, this was a disappointment even for me.

The modern audience are these people on Twitter and Reddit who love to talk about games but don't actually play them. There was a wrestler who said "it doesn't matter what people say online. If the crowd in the stadium is cheering then you know you've done a good job because they actually paid for tickets"

It's obvious. It costs nothing to send a tweet, like, or comment. But the second you ask them to put in any more effort than that, they will be silent. Frickin Anita Sarkeesian showed how effective this method can be. She doesn't play games and doesn't care about them and she made her whole career about changing games to meet her social and political views. These people saw that and said, " Well, she isn't buying games and she's completely flipping the games industry on its head. Guess I don't need to buy anything either and if enough of us just complain with something that sounds progressive I can change games too. No purchase needed."

It’s because the “modern audience” is a non viable consumer demographic.

They’re extremely Loud on social media, but when it’s time to put their money where their mouths are, they almost ALWAYS never show up.

Which makes it absolutely WILD that gaming, movies, TV shows and everything else in entertainment, marketing, and every other facet of western culture has been made for the “modern audience” which is why every company who has put all their eggs in the modern audience basket is struggling because they’re finding out the the modern audience isn’t willing to spend money.

Meanwhile, these companies had spurned their true audiences and consumer demographics due to solely focusing on making products for an audience that just really doesn’t care, nor are they willing to spend their money instead of the customer bases they already had.

It’s mind blowing

No more pre-orders, trust is lost. Buying full price? I only buy products, that deserve full price. Which a lot of games don't.
Fact is, I'm one of the guys, who's grateful for reviewers. I get a look into things and can decide whether to buy or not.
The gaming industry has failed me enough. Want examples? Fine.
I pre-ordered Fable 3.
I pre-ordered Mass Effect Andromeda.
I bought Anthem.
I bought Fallout 76.
Even if you buy games, that doesn't mean they do well enough to continue.
I'm done giving chances. You want my money? MAKE A GOOD GAME, FOR GODS SAKE!

Modern audience does not exist.
The games are made to "create" modern audience. Just imagine all the teens currently getting into gaming and not knowing anything from the better times (and not wanting to find out because the older ones look worse).

It's been clear for a long time that these people think that words and actions are equal. So if they consider saying something insulting to someone the same as physical violence, it's no wonder they also think words of support is the same as financial support. They lack the ability to discern between the practical and the abstract.

one of the big rumors of 2025 is that the game journalism community is majorly down, with less than 50 full time employee writers across the entire industry. i dont know how many got properly fired, or just downgraded to contractors. essentially this INSANELY small group is probably the modern audience. they spent 10 ish years CONTROLLING the narrative for games and what gamers want. the game industry listened to them, and now its crashing and burning. they made games for these 50-500 people, and ignored the hundreds of millions of people who actually buy and play games

This is one of the best newer culture war channels but honestly, just seeing this pop up just now made it hit that while laughing at this stuff for the past ten years was kind of fun, I just really want to see a new AAA game, get excited for it, buy it and and reliably have fun with it again without worrying whether the corpo suits got to it first and enshitified it with a bunch of day 1 DLC, MTX store garbage, Denuvo anti performance spyware and woke nonsense while entirely failing on the gameplay front.

I'm tired.
