Footage shot with the RX10V includes gyro data. Shoot with image stabilization turned off, and then apply stabilization in post-production using Gyroflow or Sony's Catalyst Browse.
I also took my RX10V to an airshow recently to shoot some footage.

I have noted when panning some one walking there is a side way stutter

The B17 is called Sally B, but it played the part in the film Memphis Belle.

Thank you for the video. I was lucky a few years back, when my holiday in Eastbourne  coincided with Airborne, and I had the Mark IV with me.  Was very happy with the results as it was my first airshow. The V should be even better. Unfortunate about the stabilisation with video. No doubt some  firmware updates will be forthcoming!

Grateful for another terrific video. Took my RX10 V to an antique fire engine festival in my hometown last weekend. 80 antique fire engines there. Several pump wagons from the late 1700’s. We also have a WWII training airfield near my house last weekend that celebrated its 85 year old anniversary on August 2nd. 1500 WWII pilots trained there on the P-47 Thunderbolt and P-40 Warhawk fighter planes before being deployed to Europe. We inherited a 1941 Plymouth convertible from my in-laws that was once owned by one of the pilots. Hoping they have a car/air show at the airport next year so I can take some video and photos.

Other people has reported the same flickering with video stabilization as well... you got some good pictures!

Wonderful stills, and looks like a heck of a great airshow.
Yeah for some reason Sony has no pan/tilt mode on stabilization so the stabilizer is fighting the panning motion. Panasonic does however.
Good stuff and interesting commentary and info.

I don't think you are going to have much luck with stabilization when you are shooting video at a long focal range and using the viewfinder out to your eye.
There is the option of using the strap and flipping the screen open; there is a small square in the metal bracket. Place the strap around your neck, place the left-hand thumb through the hole in the bracket, and push the camera away from your body; it is a very effective, stable shooting mode. You'll find it will help a lot.

nice airshow ,
not a lot of people have the RX10V yet
so there is not a lot of similar experience 🙂

nice shots 👍

Stu I got mine a week ago , have you tried the first film profile, wow is it nice

Yeah that stabilisation is poor but its also an extreme situation. The lens is basically moving sideways beyond the limit that the stabilisation glass element can go. Once it hits that limit and is at the extreme edge of its range it will decide to re centre itself and jump back. Some stabilisation systems give you the option to switch off sideways panning stabilisation because of this. Given the long telephoto reach of this camera it is remiss of Sony to not include their gyro data in the video file so that you could use Catalyst Browse, they include that feature with many of their cameras now. You'll probably need to use some sort of software stabilisation, I use Mercalli. I have a Panasonic VXF1 which was around a quarter of the price of an RX10V and has a 600mm lens and I don't have problems like that.
I really appreciate that you took time out to post this video, I was considering upgrading to this camera but not now. Thankyou.

The IV also jitters while panning aircraft video but not as bad by the looks of things.

I haven’t taken any videos with my Rx10 mkV yet, as I’ve only had it less than a week though I’m really pleased with the superb detail in the photos I’ve taken. Glad to know the video part in excellent too, albeit with a little erratic stabilisation. (Could they fix it in a firmware update perhaps?) anyway fabulous picture much appreciated.

Interesting to hear you talk about the issue with stabilization while panning. I know a bit about photography and cameras but not much about specific modern specs. Recently I looked at the 100-500mm lens from Lumix for L-Mount. It has a switch on the lens, stabilization on, off and one setting for: panning stabilization. I just read it and didn't really know what that acutally does. I only own an old Nikon DSLR where such things don't exist lol But your problem here explains what that's for on that specific lens. Now, I don't have the RX10V but I'm sure it would be great if it also had such a panning stabilization mode.

Camera on a tripod and stabilisation OFF and you’ll get great footage.

The stabilisation is trying to do its job - ie keeping the camera steady.
Good stabilisation is always going to fight against panning etc

Love your videos on the camera.

I never shoot videos, but I'm surprised there isn't a video panning mode. For stills, I find the stabilisation as good as any camera I've owned. It matches my OM-1 MK2!

I would suggest picture profile 10 / PP10 for filming high contrast scenes. The camera will automatically balance exposure levels. I would also recommend pairing the Sony RX10 V with Sony’s  PDT-FP1 monitor recorder, it has built-in false colour for monitoring exposure levels through the M&C app.

I have the same panning issues at high zoom. Hope they can fix this, the mark 4 didn't do this, just jittered.

Try with stabilisation off, even the manual says that for slow panning it might be better, exactly because with it on the camera fights it
