Not every car finds a new home on auction day, so what happened to some of the vehicles that didn’t sell in our September auction?

Dave takes a walk around nine of the unsold cars from the sale, sharing his thoughts on each one and looking at everything from a Ford Fiesta and Chevrolet Corvette to a Jaguar E-Type, Lotus Esprit and Ford Escort RS Custom.

Can sum it up easily, cars are way way to expensive and sellers are asking too much thinking stuffs worth far more than it is , bikes are a cheaper alternative,

The world is moving on, I am afraid to say. We see it more so with motorcycles because older riders struggle with starting and riding the machines, but it is happening with cars as well. People have other things to do with their money, other distractions if you will. There will always be a hardcore enthusiast, but as we see with new vehicle registrations, a new car at a good price with a seven year warranty that doesn't spend all the kid's inheritance wins over an older car with so many quirks and unknowns. A pity, but that it the reality.

Noted their was a big Healey that didn't sell. The prices seem to have dropped - are many of the potential buyers getting too old ?

Covid bubbles burst. Combined with cost of living etc.....reality is biting and sellers need to realise....prices are only going one way.

A seller can ask what they want but at the end of the day it’s value is what a buyer will pay for it, having restored classics in the past you very rarely break even on sale time.

Some of the cars possibly didn't sell as they use alot of petrol and at today's petrol prices that could be an issue

How many auctions has that Ford Thunderbird been in now - 3, 4, more? I seem to think it got bid up to £10K in August(?) but the seller wasn't keen on shifting their position of the £12K lower estimate. The lower estimate dropped for the September auction but only by £500. The word 'intransigent' comes to mind here - the car was bid to £10K, which was close, so does the seller actually want to sell it at all? Time to send this one back I think, it's becoming part of the fixtures and fittings now.

With that amount of stuff unsold, there must have been an estimation from the auctioneer valuer to the client that was far too greedy.

I wanted an Esprit for decades after seeing a Turbo SE in the late 80s. Drooled over the pop-up headlight and the wedge.

Forty years later and was able to afford a good Esprit V8, so I bought an Emira instead because I didn't want to spend time on the hard shoulder, cleaning oil off the driveway, and shelling out to replace the dodgy gearbox 😂

New houses now have no garage,and if they do and you have three cars in the family you can only put one in the garage at night ,hence the other two won’t be insured at night,also there’s no money about anymore,I insured a car at a house I bought years ago and told them it would be in a garage at night,they rang me and informed they wouldn’t insure it as I have no garage,little did I know they use Google earth to scan your property,🙄🙄👍
