Harri, if you don’t know The Platters, you are missing out on some of the 50’s most beautiful songs! I know all these songs because I have two sisters that are much older than me who played these great songs on their record players. My Mom played them all too, she had the radio going all the time. There was always music in our house!
I was born in Aug 1941, and a teenager in the late 50’s. My family did not have a TV until 1957, so we listened to the radio. And the TV was only turned on for certain programs. It did not run 24/7 as TVs do these days. I remember all of these songs very well. Takes me back to when times were simpler and basic.
I was born in 1944. I knew every one of the Elvis songs. I was 12 yrs old when he came on the scene. I think I bought every one of his records. I also knew most of the other songs. Thank you for this reaction.
I listened to pop music all through the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. And after all those years, Gogi Grant's "The Wayward Wind" is STILL my all-time favorite song.
"Sh-Boom" was one of the earliest rock 'n' roll songs but because it was a one-off hit, nobody thought about it being the start of a big change in music. From 1955 to 1957 you can see the battle between the crooners and the rock 'n' roll singers. Debbie Reynolds was an actress and for a time she was married to Eddie Fisher...their daughter was Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia from Star Wars.
Elvis' domination of the charts in the late 50s was probably one of the reason why he was drafted.
