Her hella rich background sure explains the lack of class awareness in her films

She comes off as a woman living a comfortable life who wants to explore suffering through her work. All imagination no experience. Trauma porn.

Fun Fact: In Victorian London rich people used to disguise themselves in rags and take tours through the poor areas. It was a twisted kind of tourism. Fennell gives me the vibe that she'd do the same

Rich people’s fascination with sociopathy is so disturbing to me

1:06 To be fair, if I was called Coco Fennell I would also start a fashion house

@josequintero7250 7 months ago

She’s like a posh edgelord

@krisjorstif 7 months ago (edited)

She seems like someone who lived a very sheltered and privileged life but is desperate to be edgy and interesting even though there’s no real substance to her work or the things she says. Like it’s all just shocking moments with nothing behind them other than crating viral moments.

Only thing I puzzled by in this, is she talks about the gothic, sociopaths a lot and writes about a haunted school. Yet when she did Wurthering Heights she literally gutted it of all those elements.

I think Emerald Fennel tries too hard to be deliberately controversial and if you have to try, that hard, then you are not.

I repeat: Emerald Fennel is a sensationalist hack who employs a great cinematographer.

@noneofyourbusinessforeal 6 months ago

Oh that’s why the casting of Wuthering Heights. Now it makes sense, she casted her friends.

@rumatadestora 6 months ago

So, basically, Fennell is a 40-year old woman emotionally stuck in her middle teens. I think that's the most polite description of her and her works

So...super rich kid nepo baby who grows up out of touch with reality, becomes a rich kid nepo baby theater kid at a rich kid boarding school and goes even further out of touch with reality and then is given money by people to make "art" that is nothing more that an outlet for her to be the movie equivalent of the old radio "shock jock". It all makes sense now.

Great video as always Abbie.

Emerald is definitely a creative at heart. The problem is that she has so much available opportunity and resources that she has never had to face much criticism. Even then the criticism she has received has no real ability to penetrate the walls of ego and yes men around her. She has potential to be a real powerhouse, but she has not had to work her way up like a normal person. She has no social or situational awareness and it shows in her work. Part of me hopes she will suddenly wake up and realize what she hasn't and another part of me knows she won't.

Regardless of anything else, 'Emerald Fennell' is the most upper class, posh girl name I have ever heard in my life.

@ivana547 7 months ago

She's someone who can afford to fail because her family will bail her out so she can basically make anything she wants

@NagasakiBladers 7 months ago

she has an accent that automatically makes you want to pick up some karl marx and begin singing la marseillaise

@prodbywhb 7 months ago (edited)

She's a nepo baby with mediocre movies, yes. But can we shout out her production/set design team and her cinematographer, Linus Sandgren (he worked on Saltburn, Wuthering Heights and La La Land as well). Her movies, while providing very little of value or entertainment (imo), have extremely striking and gorgeous imagery. So props to the REAL heroes
