An incredible movie to this day. I always think it's sad when people watch the chariot race scene but not the movie. The chariot race is impressive as it is, but it has far more impact and meaning when you know what Ben Hur has gone through to get retribution for his Mother and Sister. It's such a powerful moment.

18:14 He doesn't say anything, he doesn't need to because he already knows. This is a powerful scene

One of the best movies ever made, in just about every department, and should be on anyone's top ten list. Shows you what Golden Age Hollywood was capable of in the pre-CGI era.

The score is wonderful, the music really has that classic Hollywood feel to it.

Oh ... I remember seeing this film entirely for the first time in a History class!  What an epic production!

Winner of 11 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Costume Design, Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design.

I never would have thought of casting Stephen Boyd as Messala, but boy, did he do a good job. An underrated actor IMO.

When she says this will be a wild ride, I'm thinking YES! LITERALLY! 🐎🐎

Thank you Centane for reviewing this classic and important film.❤

Such an incredible experience I had watching this as a child over 20 years ago! Easily one of the best movies in this genre ever made, and Charlton Heston is so great in this. This movie got 12 Oscar nominations and won 11 of them including Best Picture. Charlton Heston won Best Actor for this and Hugh Griffith (who played Sheik Ilderim who helped the main character prepare for the chariot race) won Best Supporting Actor.
This was the first of 3 movies in history to win 11 Oscars (TITANIC and LOTR: RETURN OF THE KING are the other 2).

You Truly are the King of Kings!
Excellent...

This movie won 11 Oscars.  I consider it the #1 movie of all time.  On the Big Screen, the Chariot Race was Epic.

Centane:  Hug…HUG….close enough. 😂

I remember seeing this movie when it came out in 1959.  I went with my brother and youngest sister.  We were amazed by the movie.  By the way, the woman who played Ben Hur's mother also played Moses' mother in The Ten Commandments.  Charlton Heston was her son in both movies.

Thanks for posting this!  Very few reviewers do Ben Hur.  Steven Boyd should have been up for an Oscar.  He's so worldly ambitious and evil.

The orig Ben Hur came out in 1925 a silent movie. The one with Charlton Heston is a remake.

This movie is a true masterpiece!

Yes to more epics! Spartacus, Gone With the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia etc.!

It's kind of crazy that Charlton Heston turned 36 while filming this movie. People just looked so much older in those days.

This is an epic film, and one of my favorite movies - glad you are reacting to it.
