One month ago, I published a video titled “One of the Worst Takes on Godzilla Ever”. The video was a response to a video by Doktor Skipper who claimed that Godzilla doesn’t work outside of Japan. His video was littered with misinformation and odd ad hominem attacks on the Godzilla franchise. My response video received a ton of comments that were mostly positive, however, I couldn’t help but notice a few comments talking about the toxicity of the Godzilla fandom. So, this got me thinking…is the Godzilla fandom really that toxic?

how to be a TRUE godzilla fan: Step 1: watch a godzilla movie. Step 2:Enjoy it. Step 3:Be kind and respectful to other godzilla fans.

the godzilla fandom used to be very toxic during the year of 2019-2022
during that time the most toxic fans are the stick nodes content creators

I moved above the toxicity of the Godzilla fandom since I’ve loved the franchise as a whole, mainly because I see no reason to engage in arguments that just lead to trouble.

I wouldnt say the misinformation was that bad, i mean remember even movie studios forgot godzilla wasnt public domain, and he got his info from wiki

The middle doesn't exists anymore.
People have to either silently consume everything without showing emotions or wage dissacred crusades against other people.

Everything need to be a masterpiece or a total garbage bin.

Thank you for talking about passion and the moderate and respectful ways people can interact with each others over the tings they love.

It reminds me there are still sane people out there.

It's the most toxic fanbase I've ever known. Been a G fan 34 years. The Facebook groups are littered with legit assholes.

Man the second I saw the title I knew there would be a reference to Star Wars 😂

I feel like the Godzilla fandom has always been put in group theirs the Showa, hesia, millennium, and legendary each era has their strengths and weaknesses. I’ve never heard anyone in the fandom make fun of another for liking the era so I wouldn’t call the Godzilla fandom toxic ps respect on being a ghost fan

It is and will continue to be toxic. Remember what just happened to poor Unkn0wingly, they were bullying that poor kid for simply making a fictional universe of Godzilla behind the scenes!

The teir 3 part of this video about doxxing and death threats has sadly happened in the Godzilla community multiple times, an example could be the threats that the man in the suit's creator, Unkn0wingly, has gotten several threats by a few people for his dedicated great series

I remember back between 2014-2020, every godzilla "fan" hated the monsterverse version of Godzilla, which i never understood. They set him up as a force of nature to keep nature balanced, but it seemed like a lot of people got upset/forgot about that

Toho fans:
Good: Loyal and understand Godzilla
Bad: Say that America Godzilla is bad
Monsterverse Fans
Good: Usually younger fan or just enjoys Godzilla
Bad: Glaze is really bad, also the younger side can be a slight problem sometimes
1998 Fans:
Good: They keep to themselves, understand that Zilla is not really a Godzilla
Bad: They don’t exist

The Godzilla Fandom isn’t just toxic sometimes or actually most of the time it can be outright disgusting and cringy

@WhenindoubtFox-3 1 year ago

lmao when i saw a video about if adult cloverfield is taller than godzilla. SWARMS of godzilla fans raided the comments spamming "atomic breath" and other stuff. they arent just toxic. there sensitive and a fragile ego if a another fictional monster is 1 meter taller than godzilla

After watching this video, reading some of the comments and calling back to my personal experiences, I'd say the Godzilla fandom (at least the online community) is at Tier 2, with plenty of people fitting more into Tier 1 and a few who are all the way up in Tier 3. The worst parts of the fandom are definitely the powerscalers who base their self worth on how strong their favorite Godzilla is or judge the worth of a movie based on how strong the monsters are, and the Godzilla elitists who went out of their way to harass the creator of The Man in the Suit. Like, that series isn't my cup of tea either, but bullying a literal child over it is ridiculous and cruel, and everyone who did should be ashamed of themselves.

Luckily, there's a lot of G fans who are pretty chill and respectful as well. So maybe the fandom isn't quite doomed.

Most "toxic" behavior I've experienced from Godzilla fans was when I said on a post that I, someone that's not really a Kaiju fan, preferred the more grounded and realistic kaiju films like Shin Godzilla and Minus One as opposed to the wackier stuff, and that I wished we had a few more realistic modern films on the matter. People, uh... didn't agree with me on the sub.
