I wasn’t aware Mammy was a stereotype as a kid. I always saw her as just a tough owner who didn’t want to deal with Tom’s bullshit. To this day, I lose it at her nearly destroying the house after Tom poured water on her 😂 her animation is so good too. She’s fast and energetic, just like Tom and Jerry themselves.

Admit it, most of the time when Tom won, we actually cheered for him

As a black person i never found myself offended by mammy. Shes literally a strong black woman who owns her own house and can kick ass and is extroverted. She also has super human speed.
edit: If a cartoon offends you, you are fragile. Don't touch South Park

Growing up in the '80s, I always thought Mama was Tom's owner as a kid

I always thought Mammy was an independent woman and owned the home they were in. Nearly 40 years later I still love her, she was one of my absolute favorite characters in Tom and Jerry

I never even knew Mammy was supposedly a house maid. We never see any other humans living there, so I figured she was the owner and sole human living in that giant house. And I mean, damn, look at 11:07, you wanna tell me the maid has that much jewellery!? And the "MY house!?" line. That literally confirms that it's HER house.

I always liked Mammy Two-Shoes even as a kid, That take-no-crap from anyone attitude spoke to me in some way. I also always thought she was the homeowner too, silly me.

I never knew how violent Tom & Jerry were on slapstick comedy until rewatching some of the episodes as an adult.

I honestly kinda like Mammy's original voice. The actress did a fine job!

Mammy Two Shoes was a great character for who she was. She does not deserve to be erased.

Really like how polite Tom was when the baby bird dropped the gun and Tom just picked it up and pawed it back to the bird. Gotta respect him for this reason.

I was too young to be offended by mammie two shoes, and also laughing my ass off when she jumped down a whole flight of stairs to catch tom lmao

I never knew Mammy's name but I always thought she was the homeowner. Setting the table for a dinner party with family, cleaning her home, and generally maintaining it because she owned it. I never viewed her, or any of the other stereotypes, as being racial stereotypes. Most of them I didn't even know were things like blackface. But I grew up watching this show, and Looney Toons, and loving every single thing about them.

As time passes, those cartoons become more historical artefacts than pieces of entertainment, so it's more relevant than ever to present them in their original forms.

"I was never racist, untill I watched Tom & Jerry" said no one...ever

I agree, while not correct they are part of history and a product of their time, and shouldn't be erased. If they want to make a version "suitable for all audiences and sensibilities", go ahead, but make the original available as well.

I think it's safe to say that a lot of people, myself included, thought that Mammy Two Shoes was the homeowner and not just some maid. As for my personal opinion, I've always had an issue with censorship, even as a kid.

Mammy Two-Shoes was my favourite character. She was strong, didn't take garbage from anyone, and took pride in whatever she does. A strong character with more personality than the others draws me in more than a bland character
