Round one of the tournament is tonight at 7:00pm central!

"insufficient mating material" how did you know my college nickname?!

"Insufficient mating material" might be my new favourite phrase.

"Say a sentence that has never been said before."

"Waluigi on a Wiggler is like a Jobava London." 3:47

Pawn: "Damn, I can't believe Steve was taken out by a dark-squared bishop."
Light-squared bishop: "Dude, shut up! Dark-squared bishops aren't even real!"

For anyone that didnt catch the reference...him selling toner is a ref to when he was in an episode of Friends as a depressed toned salesman

Once again asking for Mentalist Season 2, Episode 21 ("18-5-4") they play a verbal game of chess and I always wondered how accurate it was. Love thus series so much!!❤❤❤

4:46 The scene still works chess wise, if you interpret the slaughter in that game as something yet to come. He's just taunting his opponent about repeating his opening choice, questioning his sanity of trying the same thing over and over again; a perfect taunt, in my opinion. And it works like a charm. The guy can't take it, and ragequits. I love it. Cheers.

This is such a fun series. I love how this episode switches from chess ragebait to walter white poisoning his wife. Peak mid 2000s television.

"...Tries to indoctrinate a child into the chess world." That monster! :o

3:52 If you suck at Mario Cart, you get last place. But if you suck at chess, you get second! 🥈🏆🎉💪

"If you're wondering why I'm dressed like the mid-2000s"

I just figured it'd been 20 years and it was fashionable again.

For the cold open scene, I think it's important to point out that Malcolm  let Hal win on purpose. He turns to the camera and says "hey, he lets me win at baseball" or something like that.

Dude this series is so peak

I love the fact that Jason Alexander is canonically playing his character from Friends in this episode

I've been playing chess for over 15 years, when you said "The dark square and light square bishops live on different dimensions" it blew my mind thinking about it.

Another nice touch, in my opinion, is that in the three theoretical draws we see, "George" is always the one who is up material. I think that's supposed to indicate that "George" is the slightly better player, always the one who has the chance to play for a win, while Malcolm is just barely able to defend against the onslaught.

I don't know if I'm remembering correctly but I'm pretty sure the main thing of this episode is Malcolm recognizing all the problems with the chess guy and never noticing that he has all the same issues

"You're wondering why I'm dressed like it's the mid-2000's."
Actually, no. I've got a lot of stuff on my mind, lately. I haven't really been wondering much at all these days.

I think the 'forfiet' on 3:14 was because he didn't want to hear the guy yapping anymore, rather than a losing position.
