I was burned a few times by chessbae94... as was every other streamer I know. 3 different times in my first two years of streaming I was promised chess raids which last minute were diverted to Hikaru. This drama made me a bigger chessbrah fan. I miss GoldDustTori streams.

As always: Extremely well made video

PS: I award chessbae and chesscom the Hikaru-Nakamura-Sportsmanship-Award

Great video for those of us who weren't there to experience it, good journalistic work.

This is why you never ever mod people based on their donations

oh yea we're in for a treat today

17:55 gotta love Ben for how unapologetically he mocks the BS

I know so much stuff... people do not even scratch the surface of all the shenanigans that go on in the chess category. There are even channels/social media accts that pretend to be exposing things, but they are there to head off stories from spreading. There is scamming, corruption, evil stuff at so many layers of the chess so called "community"

Peak unemployment I’m so ready girl❤️

Great video! You went deep in your investigation, presented your findings in a clear and well balanced way while being very respectful to all parties. Kudos!

If I never hear the word COMMUNITY again in the next 1000 years it will still be too soon

Really been enjoying these more serious videos, I think it was a smart pivot.

has it been long enough that we can all admit chessbae was danny rensch?

Thanks, that's pretty much as i remember it. Never had any personal trouble with Chessbae though, even though i also modded some chess channels at the time. I got the feeling that it was too easy to get on the wrong side of her, and if you did you'd really messed up. Some tolerance is required to put the social into social networking, and probably she didn't have a whole lot of that. As you mentioned she's not the only one on Twitch either.

I was just thinking about this drama a few days ago, really cool to see a video about it.

I was around at the time, but I didn't watch much these bigger chess streams, and so I only got a few en passant (😄) hints of what had happened, I think later I read about it in more details in reddit or something like that, but never had seen a report about it so complete like yours, thanks for the research work!

Chess true crime on a Monday

Let's go ❤

I’ve seen this kind of “rise to power” in other streaming subcultures. People really need to be more careful who they give mod privileges to.

"...intoxicated by the power to moderate" and petty vengeance to anybody and everyone that speaks out against her.  It reminds me of the r/livestreamfail debacle where one mod blew up the entire art forum over some petty issue.
I still don't understand how one person is willing to pay those huge amounts to streamers just to what, gain mod powers? Internetdrama is always mindboggling man.
My mind is truly boggled

RIP Nadya, a tragic loss.

i loved watching tori grow her chess. she used to make us panic every time she click the wrong piece and hover it over the wrong square before she cancel it😂

like game of thrones but with chess streamers. im always rly put off by this stuff, its one of the things i dont like about streaming on twitch, i don't rly ever want to use it for income (not to say i could, it's really hard work) because i just dont want to deal with this kind of thing.

also shoutout to "trickle down viewer economics" what an awful sentence haha

great video! i think you do a really good job of framing everything. professional spilling of the tea
