They like doctor appointments.

They are a legend in their own minds, they will tread you into the ground, just run, quietly.

1) They target younger/naive people to manipulate and control 2) Exaggerate their health issues for attention 3) sabotage their adult child's marriage to get the all of their attention from them

"Their original audience finally walked out of the theater."  Luv it!!!

Yes, they use inheritance as a tool of control.

Free. A week ago, I walked into a big box store. As I was walking along the aisle at the front of the store, my 71 year old malignant narcisicistic sister unexpectedly walked out of a side aisle dressed in really unkempt pajamas with very messy hair. She has always been so vain that I was shocked at her appearance. I didn't say anything, knowing that anything I said could be twisted around to try to get me arrested for something I didn't do. It took me a few seconds for my brain to process whether I was actually seeing my sister or merely suffering from something akin to post traumatic stress. Within a few seconds, I realized it was my sister and I continued walking on, without having said anything but not before she walked past me and literally snarled at me like a vicious dog. She didn't say anything to me; she just snarled. Wow!

You are one of the best in narcissistic knowledge!       You have helped me so much.

Dad terrorized me for nearly a year after I walked away. But I did walk away. He thought I was capable of absolutely nothing because of my developmental disability.  I proved him wrong and he definitely couldn't handle it. I've kept my distance for 31 years,  and my life is better for it.

I have a good job, a house, a spouse, and a meaningful spiritual practice.

Oh... I definitely had to put up with his fake illnesses. The dude is 78 and still alive. I still remember how often he would say the phrase "I'm dying, you know." Decades later, I only hear his voice as the same voice of the last Stranger from the movie "Dark City". He really had lost all of his power over me.

I'm a Pediatric Hospice RN and work almost exclusively with newborn and infants when the families choose to transport the child home and remove life support there with family around in a warm, loving setting.  The infant is the easiest to deal with in these situations, it's the families that take the most attention.  Most of the parents are young, so many very young 12, 13 years old.  So often I see the grandmother playing these scenes to get the attention away from the young mother and minimize her scant time to build memories with her dying child that the mom will have to carry with her for the rest of her life.

People very legitimately say the narcissist destroyed their life. That's true, their tornado of destruction goes through you and shakes your foundation to total  devastation and ruin. When I heard of recovery, I said, "Recovery of what?. I never had a day in my life I'd want back." What I learned, after C-PTSD work in therapy and post-traumatic growth with coaching, is that I now have a life at a higher level than I ever could have had otherwise. In my experience, when you think all is lost, a light shines on something new you could never have imagined. I hope this proves true for you.

As they get old most people run away because they loose attention and supply!😢😢😢

I stopped going shopping with my X. Every time he goes to a store he has to have a screaming match with a manager. Going to the Dr appointment complaining is another way to get his supply. 3 months no contact. Fingers crossed. ❤

My Dad is a slumlord. He continues to get supply by creating drama through his tenants. He is incapable of managing his role of true landlord, but it is also largely a matter of choice. He could hire professionals to take care of his place (which would be cheaper). He has the money to pay for it. Control and literally trying to suck my energy. He also uses his filth as a weapon, as a way to send a strong message. “You’re not worth it for me to do something about it.”  I have distanced myself from the tenants as well as him. I need to preserve my energy and protect my own peace. It stopped feeling like a home a long time ago, but especially so now because I can’t even use his bathroom or get a drink of water. Not worth the travel.

And this is why my mom isn’t included in my life and my dad who I still am friendly with will never know anything deep about my life because I know she’s good at wheedling info out of him even if he doesn’t intentionally inform her.

PROTECTED

There are still several other ways a narcissist can hang onto power. My Dad, an older senior citizen, who appears outwardly fragile even defies the law. Driving around with a suspended license and arguing with the police makes him feel mighty. It likely keeps his heart pumping, As a slumlord, he is fined by the city for infractions. The fines are not high enough. He is threatened with being taken to court and his response “bring it on, I dare you.”

The person I married is a sadistic narcissist and has a huge crowd fooled who think he's the most amazing person. He's. Already 60+

They use money as a bribe and people they can't bribe they will use feigned helplessness iin order to elicit sympathy.

My ex husband was in his 40s and dealing with a 21 yr old he barely knew. My sister had called to tell me he was offering to get this girl an apartment and telling her he wanted to get her pregnant.  We were still married at the time and I couldn’t have any more kids.  I feel he got worse as he aged.

Yep, and every NPD, and i mean every NPD, including the malignant Narcopath, are not just frightened of death, but are devastatingly, absolutely terrified of death.

Thanks, dude.
