I really really appreciate the director’s choice to exaggerate the potato chip scene in the anime because this is really how Light views himself and his genius

For anyone wondering why L having kids was scrapped it was because Tsugumi Ohba couldn’t imagine L having sex.

him dying halfway up the stairs could also mean dying without being able to finish his work. He won't be remembered for his greatness like he hoped, he died without being able to fulfill his dreams like the average person. Even though he saw himself as greater.

"light is GAY" bro that caught me so off guard

“Over a decade old” ALMOST 2 DECADES BRO WE’RE GETTING OLD AS HELL

A YouTuber did the math, following Ryuk’s explanation, to find out how long Light would’ve lived for if Ryuk didn’t kill him. The YouTuber stated the author confirmed everyone else’s numbers are random except Light’s, so the YouTuber did the math and found out Light would’ve lived till 50

A nail in the coffin against Shinigami Light theory is that the author stated that it wasn't him.

Misa's height and weight is terrifying. 152cm, 36kg. I'm 149cm and when I was in high school, I was 36kg. I looked and felt awful. I had no energy, I looked a lot older than I do now almost 10 years later and my body looked so frail. I guess it fits with how models were in the 2000s but still, holy crap.

I took the “humans who use the death note can neither go to heaven nor hell” and that “when they die they go MU (nothingness)” as part of the a whole. Human who use the death note go to MU. Not necessarily all humans go to the void, but humans who use the death note go into the nothings.

And I’ve always liked the idea of that human death note users become Shinigami after death.

i don't think that the L light sees is an actual ghost, but simply a hallucination of light's like the one he had in episode 26. almost as if light is subconsciously recognizing that L still beat him in the end.
as for matsuda's theory, i definitely believe near would write mikami's name to control his actions.

The manga turned 20 in 2023 and now we also have to deal with the fact the anime will turn 20 next year 😢

4:06 Actually... There is! Because of the fact that Japanese is a Phonetic Language, and L's real name was written in Katakana, which is used to transliterate foreign words to Japanese, we just need to look at the kana for his name and go from there.

「エル・ローライト」 which, when transliterated (Not translated. Big difference.) back to Latin script, becomes "Eru Rōraito". Taking into account the phonetic differences between Japanese and English, as well as the official spelling for his name is "L Lawliet", we can infer that the pronunciation for L's true name is something akin to "Law-light".

As an aside, despite Light's given name being spelled 「月」 / 'Tsuki' / 'Moon', it is transliterated (Again, different from spelled.) as 「ライト」, mirroring the latter portion of 「ローライト」.

There’s one bit of lost media that all of these icebergs always seem to miss. Back when L Change the World film was in production, amongst its promotional materials, was a short live-action clip of Masuda and Soichiro Yagami discussing L’s death, and basically trying to come to terms with it. It was shot like CCTV footage or something similar. However, you’d be hard pressed to find any remaining evidence of this anymore. I’ve searched and searched, with no luck.

Edit: turns out I was either misremembering parts of the short, or I just never originally saw the full thing, but the short itself is included on the L Change the World Bonus Features DVD. I was mistaken about it featuring Mr. Yagami (thought he makes a brief “cameo” at the end), and instead focuses on Matsuda and a live action-exclusive cop, whose name escapes me. But the short is basically just called “Masuda Spinoff” and “the one who L fooled the most” or something of the sort. Thrilled to bits I was actually able to track this down after all.

Yotsuba group being purple also signified royalty and them using the kira powers for wealth

In reality, L could have brought Light/Misa down easily…if it wasn’t for the Shinigami. If this was just Kira and the death notes while the Shinigami were completely distant from all interactions with em, Light wouldn’t be able to win. The fact it took the will of a God desperate in love to kill L should tell you, this was all bigger than him, but he did eventually bring him down. It just took the strength of his legacy to do it

21:07 one thing I've always asked myself when seeing this part is "wait, they didnt search his trash and find the tv?" They were willing to put cameras in his bedroom and bathroom but didnt search the garbage?

I think L knew Light was Kira as early as when he and Light's father were watching the family dinner through surveillance. When the news about 1500 FBI agents popped up, Light started saying a bunch of stuff, and L did his little smile. Right then is when he knew it was Light, just because of how arrogant Light sounded. L is good not just at deduction but understanding criminal psychology/motive, which is why he got so far with Kira.

0:22 to LIGHT

13:45 Well anime ending might be more sympathetic to Light, but in manga Light was generally shown as more sympathetic outside of the ending, not having psychotic moments like laughing maniacally at L's grave, not looking down on other people(before proclaiming himself a god of course), and actually being traumatized for a moment after his first kills before justyfying it to himself as becoming a martyr for sake of creating a better world.
