Attack on Titan is confusing, so Mr. White (legally distinct and not Koroto) held a lecture to explain the story chronologically.

hearing this story in chronological order is so disorienting I didn’t realise just how non-linear it is until now

16:45 Erwin’s father didn’t discuss those theories in class! Erwin questioned the official word, and his father explained his theories in private. Erwin told his friends in school, which is how it got back to the military police. It’s why Erwin feels so guilty about his father’s death.

"Because magic is magic, and magic is cool."
As good an explanation as any.

Missed opportunity to call this The Reyapping of Attack On Titan

The effort to chronologically map out each and every event of the entire story must've been crazy.

33:15 correction. They didn't receive the news that trost was under attack. Erwin noticed strange behaviour from the titans, similar to what happened in 845. He makes the decision to halt the mission and return to trost as it may indicate that the wall has been breached just as happened in 845.

27:50 the reason for the headaches was that Ymir witnessing Mikasa kill Eren allowed her to finally overcome her stockholm syndrome and find closure with her own abuser (OG king fritz)
Through the paths, she wanted to watch every step that led her there.
Maybe Ymir was trying to stop her, just as she'd been conditioned to stop herself.
Perhaps it was Eren trying to stop her as part of his bargaining with the futility of altering a fixed timeline.
Maybe the Ackerman blood created the resistance that caused those headaches.

The headaches happened whenever she had to protect Eren.
I think Eren really believed it when he said that Ackermans all imprint on a host and instinctually protect them. I think he was projecting, or rather Ymir was projecting through him.

Perhaps the Ackermans unique traits were granted by Ymir (or Hallucigenia itself) in service of Ymir's eventual salvation.

To wax poetic a bit:
If you view the story and its characters as Ymir's inner battle with her trauma & stockholm syndrome, the Ackermans are a manifestation of her capacity to overcome her inner demons. There aren't many, but they are virtuous and nearly unstoppable.

You know what irks me the most, not just in the AoT fandom, but in any community in general that cares about story, those same story haters always care about "WHY X ITS NOT EVEN EXPLAINED" like hello? Do you really need to have an explanation for everything??? And when there is an explanation to most things, 90% of the same people hate it and develop their own damn headcanon. This skit Koroto doing, especially the student character embodies that kind of anime fan that tries to sound like smart coz they want an explanation for anything and if there isn't automatically calls it plot hole, like what??

Rant aside, great recap actually.

10:20 small correction, white armbands are for non-warrior soldiers, like the ones fighting in the trenches at the beginning of season 4, not for civilians.
Civilians wears brownish armbands instead (the ones you can see on Grisha few seconds later into the video).

Random shower thought:
What if the plague grisha cured in Keith’s flashback was actually brought to paradis by grisha, paradis is a small enclosed society, so generally there should be much less plagues because people’s immune systems are similar. IRL, a lot of europe’s plague, like the Black Death, came from china, where they were just regular diseases, but the European’s immune system’s weren’t trained to those diseases . So basically, paradis should have less plagues on its own then the real world, because they are isolated. but when grisha came from marly, he brought with him a disease that was just another cold for him, but the paradisian immune systems already forgot it since it’s been 100 years, which is why it caused an epidemic which notably didn’t infect grisha, kinda like what happened when Europeans first came to
America.

People gotta understand that magic only needs strict explanations and rules for everything when said power system and rules are essential to told the story, for example, you can't tell JJK's history, themes and fights (Wich are a super important technique for JJK's writing, it's in fights that we understand characters and advance the plot) without it's power system and rules, but you can definitely tell aot'history without needing to tell everything about the titans, because that's not really the point
