I feel so bad for the poor artists working at Disney. I'd hate to have to work on whatever slop some out-of-touch, money-oriented executive board wants me to make, and I'd hate to also have everything I work on get shat on by everyone. I'll bet most of them have Twitter deleted

The AI accusations and then moving to "made for reels" accusations feels to me like a clear sign of how much credibility and respect Disney has lost with younger generations. They keep publicly announcing their plans to use AI to make basically their very own short-form brainrot slop, it's no wonder that people will scrutinize anything they put out, even when it's unreasonable or just hate for the sake of hate. I do feel bad for the actual humans who put so much (likely underpaid) hard work onto these films. Despite executives pushing unoriginal styles or storylines, the level of visual quality in any Disney film is not something anyone can do. They got some of the best of the best artists, and they keep shooting themselves on the foot, plus throwing their artists under the bus, more importantly.

Basically I hope the best for the artists and the workforce of Disney and the worst for the executives making everything worse for everyone.

i am by no means a corporate shill, but people are very keen to criticize disney for fairly minor stuff when they are doing far more evil things (like firing over 100 animators from pixar after hoppers and toy story 5 were both box office successes)

0:54 Those obnoxious subtitles that ALWAYS HAVE ERRORS IN THEM because NOBODY fixes the auto-captions and there are ALWAYS phrases or words that make literally 0 sense unless you turn on the volume and listen to the video.

I would rather have no captions than captions with horrible errors. It drives me literally insane.

Why does eveyone on twitter talk like a buzzfeed article. "ARE SHORTS THE END OF HUMANITY?"

5:29 The way my finger instinctively started moving towards the skip button 💀 I have been pavlovian conditioned

A fair and reasonable critique on Disney, in 2026?
Impossible

man the segments where you had the red rectangle show where the camera was cropping was so illuminating, i'll never slander hexed again (for being made for reels, i'll whip out the slander if the plot is as lame as the trailer presents it to be)

I'm just miffed they made a movie with the plot of the Owl House, a show they canceled and rushed the ending of

Yeah I don’t think they’d make an entire movie "TikTok friendly" but I do think it’s a lack of creativity growing more and more obvious without good music and continously better visuals to stun you.

As someone who thinks Hexed looks meh, this entire controversy is forced.

Like looking at the clips from the trailer they cherrypick, it really doesn't fit, as there's still characters and stuff in the background, and then they act like because the trailer has important things happening in the center (something movies always do because our eyes are naturally drawn to the center, and something movies have done before the advent of social media) is some crazy mind boggling modern invention.

Like, I still think Hexed looks meh and not super visually dynamic, but this specific criticism just feels weird imo.

People are missing your point with the Owl House segment and it’s bothering me. Not once did he say Hexed was a ripoff of The Owl House. He simply said the premise was “eerily similar” which is odd considering that The Owl House supposedly didn’t fit the Disney brand. To cancel The Owl House and then release a movie about magic, witches and such whilst seemingly removing the more extreme demon designs and queer representation showcases that Disney cares more about being palatable to a wider audience. That is the criticism. Not that Hexed and The Owl House are the same and/or Disney isn’t allowed to make shows with the same premise.

Of course the movie isn’t out yet so we don’t know if the main character is queer or if there are more grotesque demon designs, but it wouldn’t be surprising for this to be the case given what we know about Disney.

By that logic Wes Anderson has been making videos for TikTok for 30 years. Also, why WOULDN’T Disney make an ad for the most popular ad platform on the planet? Jesus.

Some discourse around “lazy slop” has become so obnoxious that it has wrapped around to becoming lazy slop itself

I'm just disappointed that they first announced that the protagonist was a teenage boy and then seemingly changed their minds. Boys can be witches too, goddamnit, and mother/son relationships aren't explored nearly as often in film as mother/daughter, especially by disney

6:41 As someone who’s watched owl house twice when I saw the trailer in theaters while watching minions and monsters I was certainly caught off gaurd by how similar it was to owl house.

I always thought it was crazy how much people criticise Hexed trailer for doing trailer things. Of course she's going to tell not show. They don't have time for that they have to always use those corny one liners to summerise the plot and character. Trailers are always worse than the end product

I think it's funny how nowadays Disney would definitely cancel most of their classics because they wouldn't fit their ''brand''

2:34 Win or Lose did short teasers exactly like that

0:17 chainsaw man mention but at what cost
