Hi Martin! I don’t know if it’s the most fuel‑efficient vehicle out there, but as far as I’m concerned, I’m more than satisfied.
Yesterday I rode from the city of Kobe, located on the Pacific Ocean, all the way to the Tango Peninsula on the Sea of Japan, and then did a full loop around it. The round trip was 370 km. I started the journey with a full tank, and when the fuel gauge showed two bars left, I decided to refuel. At that point I had ridden 227 km, and the amount of fuel I put in was 3.66 liters — which means 62 km per liter. My personal record is 63.7 km per liter, but I should mention that crossing Japan from the Pacific to the Sea of Japan is a constant sequence of climbs and descents due to the mountainous geography.
Yes, I know very well — and before anyone corrects me — “after every climb there’s a descent,” but the engine is still running on the way down, hehe.
In my case it’s a Hunter CT‑125, but if I’m not mistaken it uses the same engine as the C‑125.
Old CUBs, but absolute classics.
For anyone using a carbureted model, you can go one size down on the main jet and run a leaner mixture. The engine loses power, but it runs much more efficient.
I can’t hide my surprise at seeing Super Cubs on the roads in the UK. The Super Cub is a brilliant little bike.
It isn’t particularly fast, but it’s great fun.
I’m currently attending driving school to get my licence so I can ride one too. (As I already have a car licence, it won’t take too long.)
Godspeed to you from Japan!
A vacuum gage would be a great tool to use when hypermiling. Somewhere around 12 to 16 inches of mercury cruising at 45 is considered most efficient. I remember back in the 80s gages used just for that for our cars. Looks like a fun place to ride.
I owned a C90 in the early 80s, It was undoubtedly the most economical, reliable, and fun per cc, bike I've ever owned. Every few weeks through the Spring and Summer, I'd ride from Reading to Inverness, to visit relatives, and It mechanically never missed a beat. I currently ride a 1976 Lambretta, and although an enthusiast of vintage 2T Scooters, even with their challenges, I still have very fond memories of my old roadrunning lawnmower. They're indeed a timeless machine.
Never seen your vids before, seeing you take that first roundabout like you did I thought ‘this guy knows how to ride’ then you mention you’re racing past and it makes sense now, brilliant video and informative, another subscriber gained
I had one of the old style C90's. Loved it to bits. Never went wrong. When i gave it to my sister to get to college on it had 59,000 on the clock. And after 4 years in Brighton under my sister it had 79,000 !!
I have just bought a Honda Forza 125 and according to the onboard computer I am averaging 152.54 mpg on E10. I am more than happy. Keep the vids comming I look forward to them. Dai Swansea
