This was excellent. My father was similarly assiduous when it came to doing things correctly and thoroughly. When you semi-tightened one nut, then did the other side, before tightening down, I was instantly taken back more decades than I care to recall. I am no engineer, but I picked up many of his examples of attention to detail, basic good practise, that you showed throughout  It's refreshing to know that the genuinely good old habits and practises are still alive and well. Thank you!👍

I bought a hydraulic lift bench 20 years ago, one of my best decisions and I recommend them to anyone who works on bikes.

What a great video! Being an ex-aircraft engineer myself (RAF and Airbus) you're definitely a man after my own heart, in terms of your precision and attention to detail. No 'white knuckle' method of torquing for me either! The only thing that remains for me to do now is to actually pull the trigger on a new Super cub! I've owned many motorcycles during my 75 years and I thought my riding days were behind me, since I can't manage a heavy bike any more. In this respect a Super cub would be ideal. The only thing that makes me hesitate is having to cope with so many idiots on the roads nowadays, especially given the modest power of the Cub (I'm an IAM advanced rider). It would be good to get your thoughts on my misgivings, Robin!

So nice that the ewer Cubs have an external oil filter. These bikes have such a great build quality!

When inspecting tyres and wheels, it is always useful to use the tyre valve as a point of reference so you know when you have been round the wheel.  A chalk mark can also be used.

OMG...was just thinking about "foul-ups" , great back in the day in the old shop in St Pauls and a slightly dodgy patch on the new site in the mid 80's (two fires in relatively quick succession). A few of my friends received new bikes from them, not pdi'd quite as you'd expect - small things like handlebars not nipped up, brakes/brake light switches not adjusted and one chap very disappointed with the power but helped with the air filter fitted correctly!!!  Not used them in a while and wishing them well on their 100th anniversary as a family firm.

Living in “Grannyland” at 80, I no longer have my own repair facilities.
The ladies actually make a point of ratting you out if you so much as oil up a bike chain in the parking lot .
Fortunately, I had the foresight to father one sixth of my total spawn with a male middle child who can bend a wrench with the best of them.
Even better, he only lives about 20 miles away and has one of those massive bus barns that seem so popular nowadays.
In addition, he is rather impatient with my stumbling around to patch a tire or adjust a derailleur in his pristine man cave so, he usually just takes over and does it himself.
Considering he was trained to disassemble and reassemble helicopters, he is generally capable of tackling simple mechanical machinations—even of the Chinesesium variants.
Still pedaling (A LOT) at my age so, the plan is working.
Btw, he’s never charged me a single “squid” to fix my stuff. Whatever that is…

Really well done video. I have just a tad under 300 miles on my CT 125 and I think when I get to 500 miles. I’ll change the oil for the second time and I’ll go with 100% synthetic oil 1040. Just for the heck of it I changed the oil the first time at 134 miles. It was dirty. It looked just like your oil filter however there were no shavings or any kind of metal that I can pick up with a magnet at all, then I replace the oil bolt at the bottom with magnetic tip on it right off the bat I went to a much much better chain and got an O-ring chain and I don’t think it’s gonna be wearing out as quickly. I really do like the style of this bike and I definitely like the wheels better than mine or I should say the rims because these folks are just too hard to wipe down after a couple of the rides but anyway you got yourself a really really nice looking bike.
