Did you ever think about using the software experience into being a Solutions Engineer or Sales Engineer? They work with Account Executives to demo products and right fit products to a company. Well paid and might be an option to consider. Good luck man

For everyone else watching, this dude essentially got roped into a pyramid scheme by someone in the mens group he joined. He's doing solar sales as a means to earn "business skills" which likely eludes to not just selling solar but also managing others who are also selling solar. This channel is an extension of it or a marketing funnel so you can also sell solar under him and "chase your dreams."
He says himself he is not very socially adept and learned recently which makes him a perfect victim for this kind of thing. 3:54 He doesn't realize he was already making roughly $200k if you add in benefits. Now as an independent contractor, or self employed without benefits, you will need to gross $200k to be at the same level. Which means you need to be in the top 5% of income earners in the US to be at the same position you were just at. Throwing up his hands saying " making way more money" proves he doesn't understand how much he was already making, how much people makes in sales, or how much people make in solar sales. He knew full and well that it was a pyramid scheme and did it anyway as a means to "reflect" 6:15. In conclusion, if this guy was a serious person, who had real goals, responsibilities, discipline, and had to fight for his current job, he would have kept it and continued to look for sales jobs, account executive jobs, sales engineering jobs (for more than 1 month) at reputable places like Oracle and transitioned there. He's not crazy he is just dumb and unserious, many such people in the world.

The problem is that software has become "industrialised" in that the small bespoke houses or, if you work on your own, contract work, is all gone. There is only now the big software houses with all the hassles. Scrum meetings, merging code, working with horrible people.

Taking risks is the only way (or at least the best way) to grow. And, sales can apply to anything--not just solar.  Funny, I started in sales but then ended up spending over 30 years software engineering. But switching did involve risks which I don't regret.

I've been doing this for 40 years and I can say it has been a challenge.  I've worked 16 hour days and weekends at startups and sweatshop companies but in my later years I found normal jobs.  For me in my 50/60's, work was pretty easy because I developed deep skills.  I do wish I started my own company at times but if you don't have a fallback position or money it's a tough call.  If software isn't for you then I agree find something else because if you don't love it, it will suck at work.

Happiness is overrated. Emotions come and go. You have to think like an engineer.  I'm in my 60's so here's my advice to you: focus on the cash, build up you net worth and retire on your own terms.

haven't seen a how to beast video in years. tbh i'm glad, the self development niche is predatorial. If that business genuinely fixed people and their insecurities of not achieveing more or living life "correctly", the business is dead. I'm not saying go back to software engineering, but have you thought of a full time in person job? A more social work environment with a better boss? or maybe a different city?
