Hopefully I did this right... enjoy!!! 🔥🔥

There's a really neat metaphor in Fear that I haven't heard anyone talk about yet.

"It's the same song and dance," "Darkness holds out it's hand and we walk to the floor," "Every decision made isn't mine anymore." The "floor" they're walking to is the dance floor. In a lot of traditional dance styles, the "lead" invites the "follow" to dance. The darkness invites Nate to dance. He takes it's hand and it leads him onto the dance floor where he acts as it's "follow." His decisions are no longer his own because darkness is leading the dance.

I also think he could be talking to some of his "fans" when he says "Is this what you wanted?" I saw some comments on his HOPE album from people saying that they 'missed the older, darker NF'. Is this what you wanted? To hear/see someone else regress and fall back into darkness?

This EP is heartbreaking. Absolutely beautiful, but heartbreaking. It's so sad and real, and yet I'm so thankful that we have someone like NF to really let it all out, for all of us. Thank you NF❤

Nate’s going through it, prayers up for him 🙏🏻

someone on reddit commented how the EP reflects 5 stages of grief:
FEAR → Shock/Denial
HOME → Bargaining/Denial
WHO I WAS → Depression/Identity Distortion
GIVE ME A REASON → Anger (turned inward)
SORRY → Depression/Regret
WASHED UP → Acceptance

Love that he's singing so much on this. Dude's a great singer as well as rapper.
What makes Nate so special is his absolute emotional honesty and rawness.

Praying for Nate and honestly I want him to do what's best for his mental health and his family. If that's him retiring then that's what I want for him. Whatever is best for him and his family is what I pray happens. Not what's best for us fans, what's best for him ❤🙏🏼

I never want him to retire HOWEVER if it makes his mental and his home life better then i 100% support it, even though a selfish part of me wants him to make music for the rest of time

In fear when he's washing his hands, not only does it look like he's washing his hands in holy water but the way hes washing his hands aswell really shows and defins what he means when he says "OCD is worse then ever, hands are bleeding" sometimes when people get very focused on doing something till its perfect it can ruin them literally. Washing the hands repeatedly in the same fashion till they are "clean" could and would break down the skin till it starts to bleed. Just food for thought

You talking about feeling like you’re doing better and then all of a sudden something will happen and you go back 6 steps back. God, I felt that in my SOUL.

If anyone wants to comment the timestamps for each song and closing album thoughts I'm sure chat will appreciate it!!

This album was great but Home was really hard to listen to for me. My younger brother died in a sudden accident this past Christmas Eve, and coming up on the year anniversary has made things harder to face. Home hit is such a deep and specific way that I barely made it through the first verse before I was sobbing too hard to hear the rest, I had to come back to it multiple times, and seeing Knox struggle with it was such a strangely validating experience. Knox talking about how he was too late and didn't get to say goodbye hit really close to home. All the love and healing to you man <3

Nf released Home yesterday on the 14th which is my first loves birthday. He commited suicide 3 years ago when we were 16 but having new nf music and you analyzing them helped so much. I texted him like he was still here I randomly do that because he was so young. I know he found a new home and its in heaven I just wish he was here.

Honestly, it sounds like Nate is tired.  He feels as emotional as ever in Fear, but he barely moves while he is on fire, he raps fast but it's all a picture of hopelessness, he just seems tired through the entire song.  Through Home especially, as well as Sorry, he seems like he is just desperate, not for help but for sleep.  He says in Fear how he lost everything he cares about, his "keys, hope, will, joy, a friend, hope, faith, voice."  Then, he basically asks God / the viewer depending on your interpretation, 'are you happy now?'  He is probably in a place of grief and pain over whatever happened and is lashing out, saying 'you did this, are you happy with what you caused?'

In all the songs, he just sounds defeated and broken and like he just wants to be done.  I think he tried to hope again, when Hope came out in 23', and then something happened (as described in Home) and he felt as though his hope was broken.  Whatever happened, I believe it is different from what happened in Home, although it was likely something awful.  People who experience traumatic / hurtful events cannot even describe them without reliving them, let alone make a full song around them and share the song.  He talks a bit about this in Fear, saying "Even writing this is making me begin to spiral (Oh) oh, God."   Contrast Sorry with Gone from Hope; in Gone, he seems to be hopeful about the situation through the pain and abandonment, whereas in Sorry it seems like he just cannot bear to be hurt so he "can't" risk hoping.

In Give Me a Reason, the only real "upbeat/anger" song when he usually has a couple per album, he isn't in his usual state.  He typically has a real passion in his voice, and you can almost hear him smile when he hits a good line, but that isn't anywhere in Give Me a Reason.  This all culminates in Washed Up, with the beginning make you think this is going to be a great high-energy song, but it spells out that he is so indecisive, and so scared of messing up or that he has already messed up.  Whatever happened, it messed up Nate good.  I hope he feels better, not so that he can make more music although I would love it, but because hurting like that is awful, I don't want anyone else to have to deal with it alone like I think he is, probably of his own decision.

you're so good at digging into songs, seriously learn a lot from your videos. keep it up man!

I listened to this EP on friday and cried. NF is absolutely insane and such a story teller. How he uses his lyrics to make you feel how hes feeling is so crazy. He is absolutely one of my favorite artists

Mental Health is a never ending battle. HOPE is about hitting those ups. FEAR is about getting slammed back down.

53:14 I think the difference in the MGK verse & NF is like you said at the beginning… MGK was like “this is a one take”. NF messes up & his perfection OCD makes him do it again (the loop).

Fire also purifies. I take the mansion burning down as NF facing his fear and purifying his mind as a result. Since his mind is the mansion and hed been trying to get out of it while fear keeps bringing him back into the mansion. I see it burning down as a positive thing. Remains to be seen on where it goes but I think the next album could be called Faith. I pray it is anyway! Great react!
