i think i just forgot how to install pedals after that demonstration.

In the 80s, I had to learn this stuff by getting a subscription to Mountain Bike Action and reading every issue cover to cover.  Now there are amazing YouTube hosts like Seth.

An easier way to remember the pedal thread direction is to simply turn the pedal the same direction as the tire when moving forward to tighten it.  Turn the pedal the way the tire turns when going backward to remove it.  This works from any side or bike orientation on either pedal.

I like that Amazon is now synonymous with garbage.

Did I listen intently and enjoy Seth's storytelling like always even if I didn't learn anything new? 100% yes

Doddy from GMBN explained pedal direction the best. Always remove each pedal by turning toward the back of the bike if you’re looking down at the bike.

A video like this can do wonders for all big box store bike technicians/assemblers.

Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure to inform you, I straightened the derailleur hanger using a long steel ruler and it shifts like butter now.

Coming from a bike mechanic; you are probably one of the best bike mechanics I know! This is the kind of content we need to make cycling more accessible. To think that the bicycle was at the cutting edge of technology 100 years ago and lead to the invention of the airplane and cars, but now most people -in American just take them for granted and see them as children's toys or a symbol of communism.

How many bikes get thrown away because the owner can't do minor repairs to keep them rolling? Bike shops are guilty of this horrible practice too if a used bike isn't profitable enough. I don't think this is ever acceptable. Its a bicycle - not an Audi.

9:10 A much better way to explain this is that pedals always turn toward the front of the bike to tighten and turn away from the bike to loosen. This way you don't have to worry about orientation.

As a bicycle mecanic, I approve these tips, thank you for sharing !

Grease peddles before putting them on. Steel peddle shafts create electrolysis when mated with alloy crank arms. This makes removal a very hard chore. A little grease - removal is easy.

Manitou fork owners gonna be hella confused now......

oh god. Rear wheel attachment even qr is one of my worst pet peeves in riding mtb. Im glad this vid exists

For the cable barrel on the derailleur, it changed my life to understand that you turn the barrel in the direction of the problem. If you're having troubling shifting UP the cassette, turn the barrel counter-clockwise, like you're trying to push the chain up to where it's trying to go. And it's the reverse if you're not dropping down properly. Turn the barrel clockwise to push the chain down into place.

Might be the single most helpful youtube video about bikes. Mostly simple concepts, but so helpful.

That quick release "problem" is insane! How can you not understand how that works?

As someone who watches you a ton, I did not know a lot of this. Thanks for the info!
Great video Seth!

Im addicted to seth's channel dont even have a mtb or even any trails in my area the most ihve biked is in the tarmac outside my house yet seth has made me a geek over bikes. Feels like when youre younger and you see youtubers play video games you want. Hope i do mountain biking once in my life maybe even rental.

I really liked the "3d printed huge bolt" as a visual aid to show the thread direction.
