Haven't seen the Magnificent Sevew in a long time, but it was one of my childhood favorites and would watch it on repeat. Will be interesting to review it through your lens. Yul Brenner and McQueen really impressed me, at the time!
Totally agree with the Days of Thunder vs Top Gun take. It's the same genre, but DoT is more lean and to the point. Also that montage in the middle of the movie is really fun and completely on point to the movie. The humor is really good and corny/feel good. You don't expect a masterpiece, but it's a fun movie. Went to the movies to see it in my teens, and I've seen it a bunch of times after.
You may have a slightly too broad definition of victory. They might consider that multiple of their compatriots dying multiple villagers dying walking away with nothing in their pockets isn't exactly something that can be called a win. If you went to war with a squad of guys and half of them died, and you went home broke. I think you'd be hard pressed to say. You won with a smile on your face more of a "we survived." Type of thing. I also think you're taking it far too literally. He could have simply been speaking of the terms of losing as what they lost. As in, we lost a lot, i'm sure they technically won the battle. But they did not gain. They lost. I also hate when you state. There's no argument for it, or there's no possibility for this. Or that it just makes you sound a little ignorant man. Edit: I typed this on my phone and it massacred the punctuation and I can't figure out how to stop it.
My estimation of your intelligence has taken quite a hit in the last half hour of this stream, they lose because they have no future, they are men of violence in a world that increasingly doesn't require them. Regardless of how many men they kill they will never have the victory of the farmers.
I'd seen Seven Samurai ages ago and thought it was excellent, but had never gotten around to Magnifiect Seven. But by the time you got to Britt's introduction, you had me convinced to stop the stream and immediately go watch it. Thanks for giving me the push, I loved it
