One of my favs this one! Really enjoy it! Must add Once Upon a Time in the West to your list (my fav Leone), it's this style, but without the lightheartedness, and with a serious theme. It's the pinnacle of his filmmaking craftsmanship.
Lee Van Cleef doesn't cover the blokes face with the pillow to muffle the gunshot. He does it to stop being splattered with the chaps brain matter. You see the blood flying up in the shot. LVC is dressed immaculately in both films. Not going to get his shirt messed up is he.
If any of you are craving some more of the western genre I would highly HIGHLY recommend Deadwood. It’s probably the most coherent and well written western tv show of all time.
The fuse for the bridge is accurate. There are two different fuses, actually. The short one they light is a slow burning fuse, to allow the sapper to escape. The second one is instantaneous.
Watching these as a kid with my dad For a Few Dollars More was my favorite followed by A Fistful of Dollars then The Good The Bad and The Ugly. Not a popular order just mine haha but all were fantastic
I personally consider No Country For Old Men, Dirty Harry, and Death Wish to all be Neo Noir. Seems more fitting than classifying them under the Western umbrella, but I get why someone might do so.
If your doing westerns before unforgiven then heres a list: the cowboys( John wayne) Young guns 1 and 2 Quickly down under Big jake McLintock! The undefeated Pale rider Outlaw josey wales Hang em high High plains drifter Stage coach
For Disney dont forget a great: the fox and the hound
I'm going to have to riot! Top 3 favorite movie for me. I have 3 spaniels named after this movie: Blondie, Tuco and Angel :)
If you want to check out some more westerns I highly recommend Fort Apache, an early John Ford, kinda of a proto Liberty Valance. Its my favorite of his and doesn't get a lot of love. Also be prepared to be a little disappointed with OG True Grit. I think Wayne only got an oscar as apologie, its just okay, not great
