I believe this song pertains to his Mother. She was very devote and was stricken by a horrible illness and the church that she had spent years attending and supporting abandoned her.

Judith was JMK's mother she was a devout Christian. She got sick, paralyzed and died when JMK was 11 years old. This song was him letting his anger out.

That moment you realized what he REALLY said 😂😂😂

While most pick up on the grief and his questioning of religion because of his mother's illness, most don't know that this should also be viewed through the eyes of an eleven year old. A child that doesn't know how to understand and grieve, the confusion and anger, while wondering how his mother still has courage and faith.
But that harmonized long drawn out note is eerie and expresses the pain felt. Incredible song lyrically, musically, and artfully arranged.

The lead singer’s mother (Judith Marie) was very religious and had a debilitating stroke when she was in her early 30’s that left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair. He was 11 at the time it happened. Even with the tragedy she faced , and the resulting paralysis and the difficulties , she retained her strong faith. He couldn’t understand why. He was mostly just angry. If there is a God , he didn’t know why he would do such a thing to such a devoted follower. He has another group called Tool , and they named one of their albums “10,000 Days” which was the length of time his mother lived with paralysis  after having her stroke. There’s two songs back to back on that album that are dedicated to the life and passing of his mom. “Wings for Marie - Pt 1” and “10,000 Days - Wings for Marie Pt 2”. Both are amazing , but part 2 is a masterpiece.

You just wanted to rewind it to see Paz whip her hair up and never miss a beat.👍🔥💯

Now you gotta do a reaction to the song he made after his mom died.  He has a totally different perspective.   He has another band...   Tool - Wings for Marie, part 1 and 2.     You gotta do both songs back to back to get the full story

It wasn't just that he was eleven when his mother had an aneurysm that paralyzed her for the rest of her 27 years, the church parishioners told her that it was retribution for her vacillating faith. Maynard knew that it was a steaming pile. There was no more devout christian than his mother. Her faith was unwavering.

It’s a song about Maynard’s mother who was sick and dying but kept her faith in God until the end but Maynard (her son) lost his faith because she died despite all his prayers and he was angry at God after she died.
But THIS is life and death and he just can’t accept it and he gets a little blasphemous in his anger.

Wow you just dove into the deep end 🤣🤣🤣. Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are all related through Maynard James Keenan (singer). All three are worth checking out and I guarantee the fans will watch. The journey will be worth it.

It is quite the opposite of a rock song for god 😂

I love this band and all Maynards bands, this band is special!

This is a song of great anger and pain. Maynard is singing about his sick mother who held her faith for years while dying.

"God is love, let's do it...." ... oh.... oh my... buckle in

He is hurt by life and what his mother had to go through even though she was so faithful!

Don't mind me, just a passing "Paz hair thing" enjoyer. 👍

Yo!!! Glad you made it here. I heard someone say once that Perfect Circle from his heart, Tool from his mind, Puscifer little bit of funny bone … They’re all top-shelf. Tool’s progression alone is DEEP… get in that rabbit hole and you will be part of Tool Army for real 👌

There is a video of a pastor and his son reacting to this song that I highly recommend, if you want a religious perspective on it. As others have said, Judith had an aneurysm when Maynard was 11 and was bed ridden for roughly 30 years. Also, Judith’s church believed that she must have done something to deserve it, so Maynard is obviously mad at that. Underoath is a Christian metal band that I highly recommend.

You really can't ever check out a Perfect Circle or Tool (same singer/writer/GOAT) without having the lyrics up at the same time. An absolute must (as is checking out more APC & Tool). Forgive me if you already have, I'm new here. 🤍
Edit: Oops, I wrote that before the end. Now you get it. It's not exactly what it seems though...dig deeper.
(Spiral out...😉)
