I watched all my riches rust.” to me, it’s about when you lose someone you think about what you did with your time and if it was worth it.”I should’ve spent more time with them. Money and fame don’t matter in loss. Why did I waste time focusing on THIS? Can I even go back to my old life after I process this? Is this doubt just my grief and depression?”.  Anxiety and depression are rabbit holes to a creative mind especially a creative mind that has no focus or drive.
At least that’s my take. I’m still learning through therapy about emotions. 😂

Ren's best friend, Joe, jumped from the Menai bridge.  Ren got a 3:00 a.m. phone call & ran but he was just a minute or two too late.  Joe's body was never found.  Ren said he thought of this song as being from Joe's perspective, with his own pain at the very end.

Chinchilla has some live shows in the U.S. this month. If they're not sold out already, you should check her out. The 19th in L.A., the 21st in Chicago, and the 24th in New York. She does very small venues (I don't know why), so plan to stand (and dance) for the entire show.

A powerful & emotional performance by both of them on this one.

People can really identify with the whole world crashing down and feeling like you lost everything important. Losing who we are as because so much was connected to people, places, or a reality that is no longer.

For Ren he lost his health, then his best friend to self deletion, then his mobility as he got sicker, lost his dream career, at times his ability to make music at all, lost girlfriends, and when he went into psychosis felt he had lost his mind too.

A lot if the lyrics touch on those losses, I believe.

RIP Joe 🙏  whose passing has affected Ren so deeply through his life, and where he really felt he lost who he was.

You are one of my favorite reactors to REN’s songs. I would be very interested on seeing watching you listening through the song in one go so you experience the uninterrupted gestalt of the artist’s offering. Then play it again and stop as many times as you want to express your reaction. I know this would mean a longer reactor video but I have seen very few renegades have a problem with a thoughtful longer reaction video.  I’m not complaining about how you present your reaction currently; I would simply like to watch your reaction before the brain engages and voices thoughts.  My $.02

3:20 When someone has so many people die in their lives grief can be a familiar personification. It shows  up on your door(you get news of your loved one) and you open the door and say to yourself “Oh IHii I recognize you! So you open the door and let “Greif. In!” It isn’t you want the grief there. It’s just It is familiar. I think this is what Ren is talking about! I think Caskets fully expresses what he touching on in this line.

I love this song so much. Gritty, deep emotional congruence. The truth, trust and honesty reflected back and forth between Ren and Chinchilla. They both are sharing the pain and truth of feeling lost, and of having experienced pain in their lives. This song is a wave of emotion. Pain and sorrow, empathy for each other’s pain. I can listen to this one on repeat and never fail to get hit hard by my own inner voices and resonance for every single word, harmony and emotional energy that blasts through. Shaddia you really got to the core of this one. That sense of loss and searching for our identity. Your words hit the mark with me. I’ve lived with my inability to connect with the outsiders and people of the world due to my own experiences and early childhood trauma; and my inner circle will never agree to being pigeonholed into a single identity or “a singular me,” it’s simply inconceivable. Not our lived reality. Somewhat heartbreaking to be unable to relate to normal (whatever that means!) identity / sense of self, of healthy family dynamics that we cannot comprehend. The decades of honestly feeling either blank or dead inside whenever any outsider has ever pressed us to “integrate.” We cannot. It’s not happening. We’ve lived this way forever. It’s our reality and identity. We wouldn’t dream of being any other way. Whenever we listen to this song it is obvious that there are a few insiders who would like to experience a friendship and kinship as deep and true as the love Ren and Chinchilla share. They share the pain, loss, and sorrow for their lost identity and for Ren’s grief over the death of his brother of the heart, Joe. That loss and pain is a pulse. It’s a living breathing entity brought forth through the vocal layers and the back and forth sonic wave of pure emotion shared between them throughout this song. It’s an ethereal, sorrowful, painful lament, unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. Ren expresses himself through his creations in a unique and soul-touching way. Chinchilla was the perfect choice for this duet. They don’t even have to speak to know exactly where the harmonies need to go to weave their feelings together into music. We are truly blessed to live in this moment with Ren and his friends and this gorgeous music.
