This is tough, I can’t tell if it’s an even match or if black has an edge. Problem is like you said, given no time limit, white only gets stronger. But it’s just too much to keep track of. My kneejerk reaction is that white should lose a row and gain rooks in the corner - shores up the side disadvantage and removes some calculation at the expense of giving black more breathing room. idk

You should definitely do a challenge where en passant is forced, and your opponent knows this (kinda like Drawback Chess but r/anarchychess)

I think the strategy is just to not let the queen in the first rank if you're playing white. In 9:17 the best move, in my opinion, wouls have been G2, disabling the queen from taking in F1, which is what the opponent did.

What do you think? Was there a reason G2 wasn't played?

I find horde chess pretty interesting just for being an asymmetrical chess variant, which is actually pretty rare. Most chess variants are based on some idea that could apply to one side in isolation, so the maker of the variant simply decides to apply that same idea to both sides. In some asymmetrical variants, you can have a board where only one player has a king, and horde chess is of course among those.

(I can technically think of a symmetrical chess variant where that same thing can happen. However, that's only because most positions consist of multiple boards instead of just one. Anyone who can guess the variant wins a million bajillion rupees.)
