On December 3rd, 2020, a three-person team of codebreakers; Jarl Van Eycke, Sam Blake, and David Oranchak cracked the Zodiac Killer’s infamous 340-character cipher.


I might have butchered their name pronunciations in the video, so please forgive me for that. I made this video because I found the topic incredibly interesting while researching transposition ciphers.

I have tried to keep this video as non-technical as possible, offering a simpler explanation of why the Zodiac Killer wasn't necessarily a genius even though his cipher was a beast. In fact, a specific mistake he made actually made the code even more complicated to crack. I personally believe it would have been solved much earlier(could have taken some time), just like the Z408, if not for that sloppy error.
