I met Ginger Baker in Toronto airport in 1983, I was a young man and I admire Cream so I dare to ask him something,
He was so unfriendly and rude to me. He treated me like a piece of shit, I was shocked,  such an arrogant asshole.

Baker and Bruce used to hate each other in the Graham Bond Organisation and carried on into Cream!

Ginger Baker was innovative & influential, but he was also mean-spirited, hate filled, and insanely jealous of the admiration that was given other rock drummers, especially Bonham. It just came across as nasty, petty jealousy

Why was there any need for jealousy? Cream established themselves as the first power trio. They were influential and nobody forgets that. Comparisons could still have been drawn to Led Zeppelin, but there was never any competition. Both groups consisted of phenomenal musicians with neither eclipsing the other.

Led Zeppelin had a great chemistry, they clicked at their first rehearsal and that carried them through. Ginger and Jack were always at each other’s throats and poor old Eric had to try and make the peace. Zeppelin started in the late 60s but defined hard rock in the 1970s. Cream are a great band but they don’t set my pulse racing like Zeppelin do. Plus Zeppelin have the folk and ethnic styles they can draw on.

Ginger baker was good, but seems he was a legend in his own head. If he truly thought he was better than bonham, he was dillusional as well. Just extremely jealous and felt threatened.

I've never heard anyone say that Baker was his favorite drummer..... Bonham, yes,  Mitch Mitchell, yes, various others but never Baker, and yet he had this huge ego.

I have always loved both Cream and Led Zeppelin. The casual fan didn't really care about the differences between the two bands as far as "Blue's purism" goes, they just wanted to hear good music. Zeppelin had a much longer career and obviously sold a lot more albums than Cream and that is why I think Bruce and Baker were resentful of them.

I look at the excitement of a once flourishing live music scene in general, and ask what the hell do they have now?

I think the problem with Ginger Baker is that he got away with giving it, if someone had given him the absolute beating of a life time it would have probably taught him a lesson.

I remember Bruce's murderous attack on Page. I was reading it in a guitar magazine in Asda while waiting for my wife to finish shopping. When I read his vicious onslaught, I burst out laughing in a way that led people around me to look at me as if I'd gone mad. You could feel the drunken/drug-fuelled hatred in every word. But what really put the icing on the cake was some time later, I heard a sober JB on (IIRC) Desert Island Discs speaking so fondly of his time doing sessions with his old pal JP. Notwithstanding their gifts, Bruce and Baker were often unhinged personalities, and EC wasn't entirely without fault either.

Bruce was right about there being no comparison between Zeppelin and Cream. Just not in the way he thought.

Baker's drum kits always came out sounding like he was playing on cardboard boxes and tin cans, both live and in studio. Never got the proper mix, never really got the right sound for "The Cream."  His snare never really popped with a deep sound, and it was like he didn't care.

Led Zeppelin were not on Cream's radar as they split in 1968 and LZ only started that year. Page and Clapton had issues dating a few years over royalties for something they had recorded together

LZ couldn't maintain my interest past their first album. I still admire what Cream did in 2 years.

Both John Bonham and Keith Moon never played Jazz or had been in a jazz band,which Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce both  had when they were in the Graham Bond Organization band.

Baker was one of the very best rock drummers but he didn't like being referred to as a rock drummer. He always had to say he was a jazz drummer. Ironically, no  jazz musicians or listeners would ever even mention Baker as a footnote.
