Hmm... this "YouTube" sounds intriguing 🤔 might have a look at it

Iv always really liked tumblr for finding cool fan artists which is really awesome something that’s really annoying tho is a majority of stuff on Pinterest is just reposted art from tumblr without people’s permission

I hate AI. Ripping off artists, an informative video Cameron, so many choices. I just wish AI wasn’t a thing.

This is a great video, as an artist that has different social media accounts I would say that youtube is the most tolerable platform so far with minimal backlash but it takes a lot of time and patience to grow so to whoever is starting their new channel or haven’t grown their’s yet, keep going and don’t give up! You’ll definitely be able to create your own community if you stay consistent and do what you love to do, the most important part is to have fun while doing it ☕✨

I'm still around on Tumblr after the nuke of 2017. Still thriving on these radioactive grounds. It may have been filled with liminal spaces, I still find some people migrating into this platform

I'm pretty shocked that you didn't include Cara on this list, given their overtly anti-AI attitude.

That, and, please specify that Discord DMs are an AWFUL way to network. If I get a DM from a stranger on Discord, my #1 assumption is that they're an AI scammer. There is no good reason to solicit someone in DMs if you're trying to work legitimately.

Off topic but I love your artstyle feels nostalgic somehow.

I'm a beginner artist and as someone who tried to break into the art community on discord, I honestly didn't have a very good time. Yes, it is a good place to grow and get feedback on your work, but my problem is there are many, many artists who will just....trash on something you worked really hard on, or worse, you were trying something new or playing with a new style, and they will say that everything is wrong with it. And I'm a writer as well, I know what it's like to take feedback, but my issue is I feel like you shouldn't just COMPLETELY tear the beginner's art apart with just criticism, but the funny doodles people do on paper seem to always get a pass. The point is say one or two things about the piece that needs work, then move on, but don't make the artist feel like garbage if their just starting out.

That's why I just stick with tumblr for now because I actually kind of like how dead it is sometimes and most people will like something, and that's really it. Even though feedback is nice, I am someone who likes learning on my own, so that's particular why I stay with tumblr as well. It's great for a person like me who just's wants to make a portfolio and see myself improve, and if people like my art along the way, that's just a bonus.

Ik there are apps like behance, artstation ,cara specially for artist but honestly, rather than just focusing on one artist community can't we just have an Instagram for artist? cuz we want people to notice our work even random people like on any social media platform, but their creator side is too generic. I swear I'm gonna make an app for this out of frustration😭😭

Its so sad that newgrounds didnt made it

TikTok has been my main for a hot minute but I did give Tumblr a try. It’s quite nice tbh. There are a few bots but that’s all really; all the people on my recommended page are nice and it’s just posts about funny cat memes, so it’s pretty wholesome. It feels very liberating and allows you to just post what you want without much expectation; it’s not really about getting popular but just sharing..things. My only gripe with it is that the layout makes it feel like it’s moreso for personal blogging and stuff (because it is..) so merely just dumping art there feels kinda odd. But it works for posting images into an art bin I suppose. As far as I’m aware it’s not really got any ai content. Maybe people post it there but I haven’t seen the actual app itself shove ai in my face or threaten to use my things for ai

Cara. it forces you to connect with other artists old school, which is important as networking with other creatives is how you get work in many creative industries.

so far all platforms are terrible
now im a ghost artist i make garbage if i showed you likely will understand why im relentless against algorithms

deviantart
the positive is high capacity and less resolution restriction
the negative a AI flooding and scam/malware bots
engagement is minimum

twitter
positives none
negative elon musk  then severe bots problem pay2win premium the janky UI and worst algorithm of them all

instagram
no different from twitter or facebook
i dont use it
janky mobile phone UI where uploading art was severely difficult which should never been the case but they are just backwards

tiktok
same as these big tech just garbage

bluesky
i hesitate to try it but they say its pre elon twitter which sounds like improvement already

youtube itself
volatile but possible

I’m a hobby artist and have an Instagram account for now, but I feel like I can’t post unfinished art or it won’t drive people in. I’m thinking of getting tumblr to just find other people also interested in what I am, and just post all sort of art I do and have fun with it. Even the sketches that won’t ever get lineart and colour that I’m still proud of

You should mention platforms like Artstation, Dribbble, Behance. They are definitely social media, meant for professional artists.

Social media platforms are getting so awful now.

During my school years i build up on audience on Twitter and now i have 4.500 followers. But the app has gotten so shit plus the new thing of adult content being fully hidden unless you pay them monthly directly fucks with my work because it's targeted to adults so i have had to move to different platforms and start over which absolutely sucks ass.
I do have a concistant following and people that contact me for commissions still but god damn.

Other than that posting sfw art gets me nowhere apart from maybe 10 likes.

Instagram is just a tiktok wannabe now so pictures get no traction only reels.

Pinterest and Facebook are now AI farms.

Tiktok was already bad to begin with being fully made to get you addicted.

Youtube is extremely hypocritical and rewarding content farms that have sexual elements while people who put hard work in their videos don't show up in feeds unless they are very populair and showing the most mild adult themes gets you demonitized.

The only decent one in my eyes right now is Reddit but i've had some weird stuff happen there too.
For example a mod once told me i needed to stop posting my art in seperate posts because they where given complaints that i was posting too much and that it was unrelated spam even though i was posting one drawing per day of a fanmade concept based on the game that subreddit was about.

I been adding all my characters on Toyhouse but that website is for some reason still in beta so none or my friends can actually access it and look at them.

It's a full on disaster and i'm getting less and less motivated to interact with any platform

9:40 OMG THE OSC AND DEATH PACT AGAIN FROM TPOT MENTIONED/SPOTTED-

Yeah been trying to find good apps to post my work but it can be hard to find actually good ones
YouTube has been a great place to though and honestly I’ve gotten the most recognition here. Helps cause I am huge on animation and writing up stories
This video was. Major help also loved the art featured in it too!!

Just draw for yourselves,  I'm currently posting my content just for fun!
I'll try to participate in animators projects and I just don't give a sh*t about reactions

I think I'll give Bluesky and YouTube a shot
