can we stop romantisising the mafia? Ma'am that is not a bad boy, that is a human trafficker

"That's so vague what is he a nerd about?" THIS, It's just because sometimes people create characters just for the aesthetic purpose, which I can understand and relate too, but it is a pet peeve lmao.

Also the normalization of SA in yaoi. Like I was reading a BL webtoon and I actually rly liked it. Then one of the main characters casually sexually harassed some (straight) guy. I immediately got grossed out and stopped reading. And this isn’t even a thing that happened once or twice, I’ve read SEVERAL stories where this happens. Also the comments on these stories usually point it out, but then next chapter it’s like they forgot all about it and are now thirsting over that same character. It honestly pisses me off sm

The whole "woman in yaoi" one, is one I see SO OFTEN in the arcane fandom with Mel and Jayvik; the fans either completely dismiss and hate on Mel simply for having had a relationship with Jayce,  or they sexualise her as the sidepiece who isnt in the relationship or even liked by the guys but is super into both of them. Its just the complete opposite of her character.

There are some "jealousy/possesive" tropes I HATE where  the male lead is controlling, stalking, irrationally jealous, throws fits if the female lead has male friends, etc, etc, and yet  the comments are glazing him like they are the second coming of christ.

"Oh he's so obsessed with her!" "Oh he cares so much, it's so sweet!"

NO. That is not sweet. That is borderline PREDATORY, ABUSIVE behaviour. Those are SERIOUS RED FLAGS.

Maybe I'm thinking too much, but I am worried for the preteens and young people alike that would read webtoons and manhwas like these and get misled into thinking that this is what a good relationship looks like, which can be very damaging and dangerous for them if they don't have proper guidance.

If I have children in the future, I am 100% going to monitor their internet usage even while teaching them internet safety because it is just not a safe place anymore, which is extremely depressing.

When they try to justify grooming by saying the younger character came onto the older one. Like brother euuughhhhh

It's even worse when the dark skinned character is drawn as an oversexualized and/or masculinized caricature to make the lighter one look more feminine and delicate. It's always portraying them as animalistic and uneducated, or sometimes a "woke" stand in - where to prove the author isn't Racist, there's a darker skinned character that becomes a mouthpiece for whatever the authority believes in. You can have a masc poc oc, that's not bad, but when that's all you draw or those traits are only exclusive to that group. That's a stereotype, not representation.

I write a lot, fun fact: the trope about the typical “dead wife” or disposable women is called ‘Fridging’ getting rid of a character just to further plot for the main (usually male) character, and it seriously pmo 😭

16:00 it definitely derives from the mammy stereotype where black woman are seen as caregivers that do domestic work such as nursing and cartaking, playing into the idea of black woman being extremely domestic servants with motherly personalities. I would go even as far to say the mammy caricature also desexualizes and portrays black woman as unattractive as well. It is definitely racially motivated and is a trope rooted in racism. Unfortunately black woman are either portrayed as extremely aggressive and oversexualized or as this mammy stereotype and desexualized and theres very little in between.

6:32 i called someone out for glorifying necrophilia and bro had a fit and said “its just fictional” r we deadass

Finally an art opinion that isn't just "guys this artstyle is ugly" I've been thinking about how darkerskinned characters are always "the evil/darkside" trope. And the hidden misogyny in women characters in any bl. Like why are the women always evil??? Like the ml could kidnap the Mc for "love" but a girl having a crush on a closeted gay guy bc they genuinely dont know is criminal....maybe I'm just too woke but i agree wholeheartedly with all these topics. (Cough Valentino from Hazbin)

12:35 I'm writing a webcomic with the found family father daughter trope and the amount of times I've been asked if they fall in love?? THAT'S HER DAD??? SHE'S A SECOND GRADER????

“You aren’t supposed to simp for this character because they’re actually evil” then proceeds to show 50 something drawings of that character in a fan service way

The one with the whole, " Let's aestheticize a genuinely horrible person. " ... Springtrap.

1:25 Not going insane! I also hate it. It’s colourist, racist and for a writer/storyteller worst of all boring and lazy. (not that colourism and racism aren’t bad, objectively they’re worst, but if you’re both and on top of that rely on cliches, your stories will be bad).

11:15 I lowk thought you were gonna talk about when a couple meets when they’re BOTH kids and I was like “well what’s wrong with that” and I was silenced very fast

One thing that bothers me is how some people will apply a masc and fem/heteronormative role to every non straight relationship. For example, a mlm couple but one of them has to be the smaller feminine one -- like the whole "this character is the man in the relationship, and the other is the woman" thing. Like, no, relationships vary, and peoples personalities and gender expression aren't determined by their relationship or relationship status. So its super annoying to see people push that kind of  heteronormative whatever on mlm/wlw/etc relationships

11:47 "character A wasn't attracted to character B until they got older" is insane??? Like, grooming is not rooted in attraction, but the end result is that attraction or not, the child was groomed and harmed as a consequence of it, it's still gross and abusive and lack of sexual attraction doesn't make it any less disgusting

Quick tangent, but for the racial stereotype part of the video I see it when people draw the powerpuff girls in their style. I have seen lots of artist change the race of the girls, which I have no problem with. The problem though is when Buttercup, the more violent and aggressive sister is usually drawn as black.

I'm very glad that I don't follow those racist stereotypes! I have skinny black girls, black girls who are quiet and nerdy, short and shy black guys. I'm realizing now that I don't really have a lot of Asian characters, I'll change that
