The Judge Dredd Duology - Caravan Of Garbage

Mr Sunday Movies

292,487 views

It's unfortunate that Judge Dredd has only been given two live action adaptations, especially considering only fifty percent of them are considered bad. But I guess that's what happens also when neither of them made any money. In this compilation we take a look at the Sylvestor Stallone 1995 entry Judge Dredd, which despite not being great leans into the more sci-fi/comic book elements of the comics and 2012's Dredd. That one starring Karl Urban and aiming for a more realistic take. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review

I love how this Judge Dredd video is 5 years old and the current political events/jokes are still relevant because nothing has fucking changed.

"Can't execute a perp on 99%."
Dredd, being more reasonable than modern cops.

27:00 - fun fact! the super slow mo cinematographer was Gavin Free, one half of the slow mo guys, also of roosterteeth fame

the helmet thing isn't just about the look of it, it changes a really important part of the character which is that Dredd is supposed to be a personification of blind justice. And the helmet conveys that in a literal visual sense.

This is why Dredd isn't a hero or villain, he simply is the law. When laws are just, his justice is heroic and when they are unjust he becomes a villain. That interplay is pretty important to the character and the helmet is what makes that work

34:45 Apparently Karl Urban had a note on the inside of the helmet that just said "Scowl harder"

Dredd is, for me, the best comic book/superhero film of all time. It's such a perfect film, and an appropriate length. It doesn't waste even a second. No filler or fat on it and everything that is there is necessary.

Karl Urban's portrayal of Dredd (and Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian) is how the MCU should have done Dr Doom where you barely see him with the helmet off, with most of the performance coming from subtle body language, good dialogue and a memorable voice. Instead they've cast RDJ for his name so you know he'll have a nano retractable helmet for 90% of the movie to show off his face

"could you make this movie without Judge Dredd?". THE RAID has entered chat.

Netflix will give anyone money, then get cold feet before you've finished telling your story and cancel it without proper resolution. I'm tired of this happening over and over again.

As someone who didn't really get the whole 3D trend I've got to say it was absolutely amazing in Dredd.

Just a very light touch of it throughout the film and then it just explodes out of the screen in the slomo scenes. Incredible

@vultan2000 8 months ago

It should have been ‘I am the TRIVIA!’

@jonsmith5058 8 months ago

I saw Dredd in the cinema and the 3D was honestly some of the best I'd seen cause it was restrained and the shots that showed the verticality of Peach Trees really worked, the POV of Ma Ma being thrown off the balcony and falling really made you feel like you were falling with her cause of the 3D. One of the times I will recommend 3D

The man getting shot at 14:04 is Mitchell Ryan, who was Jim Carrey's boss in "Liar, Liar "

@Gordon.Pinkerton 8 months ago

Armand Assante is indeed, a real one, for this film

The Judge Dredd VHS was a latchkey-kid classic. Half the guns look like super soakers so playing Judge Dredd was easy with siblings and the Judge outfit already looks like a terrible halloween costume.
