I was four years old when I learned about the benefits of a strong building material being used to construct a home. It was a story called The Three Little Pigs. It may be worth a look.

Europeans live in houses, Americans live in movie sets.

In Europe a house is not considered old until it is at least 300 years old and anything under 50 is considered fairly modern

Why does it feel like I've just watched you discover the 3 little pigs

My local Pub is older than your Country.  The California wild fires are a prime example of poor building techniques.  The only houses that survived were brick built.

Europeans watching a American movies -  "Wake up, i heard someone downstaires in the livingroom!"
Europeans - how did she hear someone down there, she must have superppowers???

Hit a wall in the US, you make a hole in the wall. Hit a wall in Europe you brake your hand

About 40 years ago, whenever the news reported that hundreds of people in the USA had once again been left homeless because of a hurricane, my grandfather would always say: "If you want to live in a hurricane zone, you shouldn't live in a tent..."

I'm Italian and live in a 423-year-old house.
Last year, I had to renovate it to comply with the new European building regulations and bring it up to Class AAA.
This work increased the insulation (this reducing heat loss and maintaining a warmer temperature in the summer, although this doesn't apply to my house, which, being very old, has VERY thick walls). It also improved airflow in all the rooms in the building and energy efficiency thanks to the addition of photovoltaic panels and a new boiler that reduces consumption.
For me, seeing that you Americans live in houses without foundations, made of wood, is something of a shock.

The worst part is that prices are as high, if not higher, in America to build a cardboard house than in Europe to build a stone house...

Where I live you couldn't get a mortgage for a wooden house because it's considered a "temporary structure".

My house is 80 years old. So it's almost brand new.

'houses in Europe use stone, bricks. Is that a big difference?' Colosseum.

Centuries ago in Europe cities were massively built in wood but after devastating fires (London for exemple) wood was slowly banned.

I remember hurricane Katrina and was shocked at the amount of damage shown... then you would see a properly built brick building like a church that was still standing

At 51 years old I still can't get my head around the fact that the So-Called greatest and most powerful Country in the world is still living in the dark ages compared to the rest of the world.....

British here, I'm 66 and lived in lots of different houses and never lived in one that wasn't built from brick, this is normal in the UK

My child’s school was built in the 1600’s, We also have houses built from 1615!

In Finland, after 2nd war. Was a big rebuilding boost . It's called 'rintamamiestalo', made 40'-50's, and most of them is still occupies. Well made and of course today are repaired. Well repaired are expensive.

My issue is with the "american dream" - a house in a suburb. Why? it seems terrible. Being 30 miles away from anything - not even a corner store or hot dog stand, not to mention any sort of entertainment at all. It would suck tremendously to have to drive half an hour just to get anywhere at all. Why live like that? Then you have lawns which are literally empty - not a single tree, much less any sort of landscaping. What's it there for? In the end you're just stuck in your house because there is nowhere to go - just more houses and empty lawns. It's massively depressive. I much prefer living in a city where literally everything is within foot's reach.
