It‘s pretty much a given at this point that (in a lot of ways) European houses are just fundamentally more longlasting and better than American homes. BUT, maybe American homes have a few advantages! Have you all experienced visiting a friend or family member in an American home vs the typical homes in Europe? Or even vice versa? What was your experience like?

Renovation and conversion of European homes is not only possible, but common.

That guy is wrong concrete houses can be repaired and modified.

Australia here:
US: You do realise that the US invented beer and made it more popular right?
France: Beer was invented around 4000 BCE in Neolithic Central Europe or else by the Sumerians during the times of Ancient Mesopotamia also at around 4000 BCE. Beer was even chemically confirmed to have existed in Iran by 3500 BCE.
US: I mean craft beer.
Germany: My local pub is older than your country.

the guy that complain about the gutter is a building inspector, he checks that the new build follows all the requirements before sale.

Specifically about the AC. I live in southern France in an old apartment building made in the 60s and we had to buy two small mobile ac units.
We can install a fixed one but only in one spot that is suboptimal because it would heat up our balcony.
The other outside walls are bearing walls and so can't be pierced to put the ventilation. (Don't try to punch the walls, you'll break your hand and wrist.)
And we aren't allowed to put exterior units on the "inside" yard facade because of regulations (Sound and visual).

Houses in the past were not designed with AC because it wasn't needed !
If you ventilate at night and close the windows and shut all shutters by day, most homes will remain pretty cool even with high outside heat.
But it didn't account for all our modern equipment.
TVs, PCs, even Fridges, they all are heat generators. And that's why NOW AC is needed.
So it's a bit more tedious to get one installed however most home nowadays are built with AC (at least, I'm sure about southern France and Italy).
BUT, let's be clear, for 2/3 weeks per year when heat is really hard to bear (like, peak at 40°C [~104°F]), it's not that bad.

Last but not least, AC in the UK ? Really ? There's no suffocating heat there, you don't need it.
I know that London had a few heat episode but be real, it's mostly because of overpopulation and heavy artificialisation. Naturally the country is not a warm one.
ie : Average temperatures countrywide for the UK : 15,7 °C [59°F] in June, 17,8 °C[62.6°F] in July and 17,3 °C[still 62.6°F] in August. (It's freaking cold for a summer !)

I live in Scotland in a stone house 240 years old.  The original roof was only recently replaced and the new slate roof could last several centuries.  This house will live a long time and I feel privileged to be part of its history.

Having AC on a really bad insulated house is the most stupid yet most american thing to do

Do not punch a German wall. The walls here puch back.

Air-Condition in Switzerland is not very common. What gets more and more common, specially when building a new house (private) is to use the heating unit, now heat-pumps (earth, or air) and put it into reverse. So the floor gets cooled and therefore the house. But only by 2-3 degrees Celsius. An other  benefit of a good isolated house is, that in winter it keeps the house warm and in summer it keeps the heat outside so the house stays longer cool => no air-conditioning needed.

What is to maintain on a house? Just some painting once in 5 years or so.
Kitchen and bathroom can be used 20 years more.

If you want to do a big change in your house, you can remove walls. Just some wall will be of concrete and can not be removed. The other wall will made of plasterblocks.

The only time I've seen structural damage to a well built european house was after 7.0 magnitude earthquake, and the damage was a crack in one of the walls.

I don't get it ... first minute: just buy a microwave ... next couple of minutes "missing AC" ... why don't come to the same conclusion: Buy an AC, if you sooooo miss it

We DO NOT NEED ACs because: the beautiful, old, big classical (appartement) houses (most often in European city centers) were built (and there are enough houses that are still built!) with bricks and/or stones.... 😂
They hold warmth in Winter and keep cool in summer BECAUSE of these walls!

Eastern European squeezing in. Energy efficiency is a huge topic here. People are generally encouraged to consider this when building or renovating because energy efficient houses will be much more affordable to live in. We want to heat the inside, not outside 😂. Also comes in handy when keeping the heat out during heatwaves.

The 1st guy apparently doesn't know (or forget) that a lot of bridges in Italy were build by companies that were under the influence of the maffia and had to build them with inferior material delivered to them by other maffia related companies.
Besides countries in the Balkan and South Europe, we don't need AC for the few weeks/days it's really very hot.

Wrong.  You can definitely restore concrete buildings.

I'm in Germany. It does get very hot outside, but my walls are 2 feet thick, so I have never felt that heat inside. It's nice and comfy inside. I also heat with a wood stove in winter, and it's really cozy, because the thick walls keep the warmth in well.

Air bricks are meant for ventilation of the space between the two layers of brick of the outside wall. We actually build our outside walls double for extra insulation. But the space between them needs to be ventilated properly to avoid mold from condensation and to air out the moisture that crept in while building the house.

19:12 "Two plum(b)s out of plumb" my best guess here is this very clever wordplay is due to the fact that "out of plumb" is an old british expression about being vertically straight dating back all the way to the Roman times that to check if a structure was vertical you checked with a bit of string and lead, lead being called plumbum in latin (hence the periodic table label of Pb). So it's a fence that is 'away from the lead' nb not upright by a width of two plums (the fruit), thus "two plums out of plumb"
